Default Satellite Radio Causes RX 300 GPS Failure

Frack:

I installed a Sirius sat radio on the dash above the DVD navigation system on my 2002 RX300.

That part worked fine, but suddenly I lost GPS signal.

After putting the Nav system in debug mode, I noticed ALL GPS satellites had 0 signal.

ZERO, not a litlle, not most. ZIP

I relocated the radio all over the dash with no luck.

Any place within 2 feet of the touchscreen and it was totally dead.

I tried it in the back set and voila. Full GPS.

I called AudioVox and they said there was no solution.

So I had to return it. (after swearing for an hour)

In retrospect, Im not sure whom I mad at. Audiovox for leaking RF or Lexus for putting their antenna in the dash and using such a weak model.

So, I will stay mad at both.

Update:

I returned the sat radio to circuit city and purchased a sirius sportster. It works fine anywhere on the dash.

I guess the other unit spews so much RF that it overpowered the GPS.

Another bonus is that the sportster has a tivo like replay function!

I was told that the RX300's GPS antenna is located near the top of passenger side "D" pillar. Not under the dash. I think you are right that the sirius radio simply emits too much interference.

preiner, did you just mount the Sirius radio on your dash? I am wanting to get the new Sportster but I want a clean installation that would be ideal for my 2003 RX 300.

I have a Garmin eMap that I mount on the windshield and my XM Radio with the antenna hooking on just below the sunroof...no interference there.

The antenna is located just forward of the Navigation Display, under the dash, try relocating the satellite radio antenna as far away as possible.
