That's in the ballpark if you're doing mostly city-style driving.
EPA rating is 19/24 for 2WD or 19/22 for AWD. With a lot of short trips, even 19 is optimistic.

Is that average resetting with every tank of gas, or do you reset it manually?

if you're doin' mostly city driving, that's about right...i have a 00 rx300 as well. i'm primarily driving highway and i only get 19mpg if i'm lucky...if i'm goin' on a road trip, tho, i have gotten up to about 21+ but that's ALL highway

mr.a, check which setting the display is showing, is it the average or the instant MPG, or the trip version I have never used or quite figured out. I have never gotten anything like 17mpg. Always averages 21-22 on fillups; try checking your actual mile/gallon filled a few times in a row and let us know what you find.

i think i got around 18-19 mpg in the city, and it got me up to 24 mpg on some road trips on the freeway (i calculated that myself).

Default What I get

Hi,

I have a 2001 RX 300, AWD and it gets 13.5 litres per 100km. That is highway driving I believe.

Hi,

This is my first post here and I hope you can help I have an RX300 from 2000 and was interested to know how to reset the 'avg mpg' on the display, manually. I have no idea and mine is currently showing 13.6mpg after a 250km drive, from which I have put in $80 between 2 separate fill ups. When I started the journey, the mpg showed 12.9, so it has improved, but I'm sceptical as it really feels like I'm putting a lot more in there then I should, and most people are talking about getting at least 19mpg on short trips! Also, when I fill up, doesn't reset it on the display. Am I doing something wrong? I turn the engine off when I fill up (which I assume is the right and safe thing to do).

I look forward to your wisdom

Hello, Welcome to Club Lexus!

This is quite a old thread you dug up!

To reset the avg mpg, hold down the "INFO" button when you are displaying the "avg mpg". It should reset!

Also, the most accurate way to calculate fuel economy would be by doing it by hand. Take the miles driven on the tank and divide it by the gallons used to fill up.

My daughter's 2001 RX300 FWD is averaging 18.8 mpg after years of not resetting the INFO button. Her driving is mostly city mileage at college, but she does have a major interstate handy to make longer trips. Your mileage seems to be in the normal range of the vehicle. It would be interesting to see what you would get driving on an interstate at 65-70 mph for an hour or two.

I've been using an iPhone app "Fuel Monitor" to track fuel mpg, maintenance, and repair costs. The INFO display is pretty accurate, but I get a little less mpg than what it displays. Probably .8 mpg less.

Please read the owner's manual. It is a good read and has loads of information. If you dont have a hard copy, link is provided in RX300 Mega thread ,,, start here if you are having problems sticky.

Haha, I am good at finding what I need through Google search. This was the closest thing I could find

Thanks for the welcome. I am new to Lexus so this won't be my last question. I will try the INFO reset. Thanks a million for your help!

I put in $50 the other day and drove it around town for about 4 days and ran it dry, was very surprised. I suppose I (and my wallet) need to get used to having a larger engine vehicle. My old car (not Lexus) was getting around town for a week on $20. The price of luxury I suppose

AVG. is 18-19 unless my wife drives it... Then it drops to 16 or so... She has no concept of economical driving...

It did improve greatly after I changed my thermostat. I was down in the 14-15 range. Keep in mind this is all with winter blend fuel.
