2001 RX300. I'm looking to install a trailer hitch and am a bit confused about the wiring. My owners manual says something about trailer wiring being tucked under the rear bumper, but I can't find it. How do I know if my car has any of the pre-wiring needed to install the trailer wiring harness?

Easiest way is to have a dealer check by your VIN#, I am not sure of what to look for on the vehicle.

Towing prep package was standard equipment in 01. The wiring isn't actually tucked in the rear bumper. It is located in a black plastic box just foward of the rear bumper. It is just a plug. You need to purchase a controller to plug into this plug plus a pigtail to go to the rear bumper. This link should explain all:
