RX 300 Rear Bumper
The plastic pad protecting the top of the rear bumper-cover on my wife's 2000 RX 300 keeps coming loose on the ends. [ protects from luggage, etc ] I've completely removed it , removed the old 2-sided tape, prepped it with 3M adhesive remover, re-applied new 1" 3M tape all around the outer edges and it STILL pops up on the ends. Very aggravating! The dealer wants $100.00 for a new one, plus installation, and they won't guarantee me the new one won't do the same thing. Anyone have a solution to this problem? ALSO.........Is Lexol leather cleaner/conditioner the way to go for the seats? Thanks.
After you used the adhesive remover, make sure you wash the area thoroughly with plenty of water.
Try double-sided Scotch tape instead. Those 3M automotive strips are a bit too thick so the edges will pop.

Agree with previous reply, wash the surface extra clean and remove ALL residue. Put a good warm soapy solution to the bumper top and protective step and then sponge down with plenty of water. I installed the step myself on my '99 RX and I cleaned the surface about three times and let it dry completely. Don't rush it and try to put it one before it completely dries.
As for double sided scotch tape, I don't think that's going to hold enough. I would go with the thin 3M tape instead. About the same thickness as the original adhesive tape.
I assume you have checked to make sure the protective step itself is not warped? $100 to install is sort of steep. You can get that yourself from Irontoad.com for around $68 and install it yourself, since you're doing that now.
As for the interior leather, I use a product called Macguire leather cleaner and it cleans fairly well. It doesn't leave the leather surface slippery after cleaning it like some other cleaners I've used before.
Good luck.
