Default resetting window pinch protection.

Hello all..

I have a 2000 AWD RX300 and I had the front door windows tinted with some Formula One metallic based tint. I find that sometimes, the front passenger window doesn't want to roll up when I use either the driver or passenger door window control. I think it has something to do with the tint and the pinch protection threshold. When I try rolling up the window, sometimes it doesn't move, and sometimes it just rolls down further, instead of rolling up. On cold days, it usually doesn't have a problem, but on hot days, it happens very frequently. I'm thinking that the tint gets softer and stickier on hot days, activating the pinch protection.

Does anyone know how I can reset or recalibrate the window pinch protection mechanism on the RX so that the window will roll up properly?

Thanks in advance.

Lightbulb Simple solutions first!

I had a similar problem on my 2000 RX300. I believe the pinch protection is simply a current limiter that kicks off at a preset amperage, thus the adjustment is either extremely complex or non-existant.

The good news is that there is a quick and easy fix:

With the window down, spray some dry silicone lubricant into the window channels. Allow to dry for a few minutes and run the window up and down a few times. Your windows should operate freely for another year or so, then repeat. A little Rain-X on the outside of the glass will help seat it into the top channel - and also keep your windows clear.

Silicon dry lubricant, once the volatile carrier evaporates will leave no residue. That's why we don't use axle grease...

Thanks for the tip.

I talked to the service rep at my dealer about it, and he said that I should be able to reset the pinch protection, but he never said how to. He said it was in the manual, but I never found it.. Maybe he was talking about the service Tech manual and not the owners manual...

I might give the silicone a try, after I bring the car in for the next service to see if they can reset it for me..

Post Jam Function Reset

here is what the Repair Manual has Although I do think there is a way of this being done over OBD2

ADJUSTMENTS

Jam Function Reset

1. Remove door pannel. reconect window switch. Turn Ignition on. Using windows switch manual UP mode, close window full. Using a wire .079" (2 mm) in diameter with a flat end, press reset switch on power window motor
2. using windows switch manual DOWN mode, open window fully. remove wire from reset switch. using window switch manual UP mode, close window fully. Verify proper window operation using window switch Auto function

Power window Motor Limit Switch

with window motor remove from regulator assembly, connect motor to vehicle harness. rotate motor 6- 10 turns or 4- 5 sec. in upward window direction. The set limit switch to OFF postion (TDC of window glass)

IMHO let them play with it but if you feel so technicaly inclined Enjoy
