Weird Issue - 2002 RX 300 AWD
So, my comes on intermittently while driving long distances. I figured I'd just drain and fill and get some new tranny fluid in it. Did not have a chance to do that b4 my trip from Ohio to NY last week. A/T Oil Temp light was going on and off on on the way home. About two hours out, I see a white plume of smoke behind me. I got out at the nearest rest stop and saw, what I assumed was trans fluid splashed under the car. The white smoke was where it hit the exhaust and burned off in white smoke. Checked the oil and trans fluid levels... still good. Also checked the trans cooler.. no obstructions. Couldn't see nay obvious leak locations. So, with kids and dogs in the car, I decided to try and get home. Drive home was uneventful. No issues and A/T light never came back on. Took it to a local repair shop. He said that he can't find a leak or blown tranny coolant line but he said there is a small u shaped line above the transmission with what looks like a valve of some kind. He thinks it may be a relief valve of some kind and this was what caused the fluid splash under the car to relieve the heat/pressure in the transmission. I never heard of that but I figured I'd ask you guys about it as well as get your ideas on what the issue may be. Trans does shift a little slow between gears when cold now, but no other symptoms. Taking it to a tranny shop to have them take a look and do a drain and fill.
You might have accidentally overfilled the transmission.
Please share how you checked the fill level/ Incidentally I have had difficult time reading the level on the dipstick even when I followed the procedure.

I've always associated white smoke with coolant and dark smoke with lubricants
Was the liquid under the car the color of transmission fluid or something else?
As for "Trans does shift a little slow between gears when cold now", how cold are we talking about?
If you mean "I get delayed upshifts for the first 3 or 4 minutes after I start the engine" that's working as designed

Just draining fluid and refill isn't a service without the filter changed as it works on gravity and holds all the flow if blocked flow is the issue. You could add a cooler but it as long as have good flow of fluid all is good.
