the GS400 will be competitive in autocross competitions?

i'm thinking of taking the GS4 on a little excursion mid this year

well what do you wanna compare with? if there is another 540, yes, you should be able to beat them with good driving. but if you compare yours gs4 to porsche, itr type r, etc... they will win

I drove my GS with L-tuned and sways autox...then dad's 911.

NO CONTEST in handling.

well i mean you have to look at what the car is made for. with the size and weight of the gs, it's not for hard core cornering and autox at all by all means. you need small and light cars to achieve that. even with an m5 you can't get extremely well result at autox. with an m3 yes you have a much better chance. with an m coupe you can even better results.

the gs4 is designed to do straight line drag if that matters or high speed accel. those areas the gs4 is no doubt a beat. or if you talk about normal freeway chase or canyon run, a modded (handling) gs4 can give you some very interesting ride.

btw, changing the whole tranny to 6 speed, that's quite some work! but turbo sounds nice though. why not twin turbo

i guess the only way to really find out is to go out there and see how the gs4 with suspension upgrades will stack up to the other cars out there...

yes, definitely, the gs4 is a heavy car... just the way the profile of the car almost images a tank!

but besides that, i truely know that the gs4 will not compete with an ITR or something all wheel and front wheel drive... however, i'd like to give the m5s and the other sport sedans out there a good run for their money. and get it on tape too...

in terms of a 2jz-gte swap, a 6-speed swap is possible.
i'm thinking of using a tilton clutch mechanism with tilton clutch reserviour for clutching.... if it turns out that it wont' work... i'll always be happy with a HKS twin turbo auto 2jz-gte GS

kinda wish i started out with a gs3... but, can't complain about the v8

i wouldn't expect a GS with off the shelf modifications to ever be on the same level of handling of a 911...

two entirely different cars... one built for track / racing purposes, the other built for sport / cruising...

then again, if i had the $$$$ to spend on a 911...
i would be in heaven

well if you get up to stage 5 in the other thread about handling mods, i really don't think you will have problem outrun m5.

To compete in the stock class you can only modify the shocks, front sway bar and tires. Not 100% sure but you get the idea.

Wheels have to be stock size.

Instead of AutoX, you might try a high performance driving event at a race track. IMO, you'll have more fun than AutoX in a GS4.

Hey Bro. I go autoXrossing every now & then w/ my old GS400.
You will actually compete in a very competive class w/ those mods.
I run at Solo2 autocross SCCA. in Giant stadium lot & PA area tracks. The GS is heavy but drive very well for a car that's in SUV range in weight. 3750lbs. come on bro. If ya check out these events most of the cars are handling compacts like Celica,WRX,BMW,vette,& 2-doors coupes. Go out & take her to the event because you'll end up learning alot & she what she can do. I drove the hell out of it & was surprised. I had crappy all season gt+4's & tore them up shreeding them like crazy. MAN it was so much fun! Good luck bro.

Driver skills can still make or break how well your car will do, whether you are doing auto-x or driving down a twisty road.

As far as seasoned Auto crossers are concerned, a 911 in their hands is always going to be faster than the GS, but in the real world, many people who own good handling cars just don't know how to drive their cars to the fullest potential, mainly because the limits of their driving skills are reached, long before the car's limit in handling is reached.

Up here in Silicon Valley, we have a yearly Auto-X event called the Duel at De Anza.

There are the standard hard core guys out there, but there are also a lot of newbies and wanna-be speed racers taking their modded WRX's, Honda's, 911s, etc. out there to run their cars hard once a year.

I won't get into detail here, but I saw a lot of fast cars with slow drivers get beat by obviously slower cars with fast drivers.

I'll never forget seeing a hot driver with a Taurus SHO, kicking 3utt on several 2 dr. sports cars.

I intend on running my GS at the event this summer. I'll surely post my times compared to other cars of equal or greater handling/performance.
