While trying to understand some basic concepts of driving spiritedly, I stumbled upon this. Nice!

The corner (including the sections of track immediately before and after) can be divided into distinct zones which are shown in Diagram 1:

Acceleration zone (prior to cornering)
Pedal transition
Braking zone
Gear change
Turn-in point
Neutral throttle (or trail braking for experienced drivers)
Apex point
Acceleration (after hitting the apex)
Full power

Play some Gran Turismo to grasp the concept then take your car out to auto-cross to practice.

The Gran Turismo practice mode/license mode coaches you the lines to take for which corner at what speed and how to set yourself up for the next corner....

*didn't click on link* but taking a corner is all about late braking/early on the gas AND weight transfer to the tires that are able to get the most traction.

I don't think I'd agree with this. "Late" braking means very different things to different people, and early on the gas will make the front end plow like an agricultural implement. That's been my hardest lesson driving cars after racing motorcycles. Patience with getting into the throttle isn't something we do on bikes because rolling on the power helps the bike turn. In cars, it just makes touring the tulips much more likely.

No, you don't transfer weight to the tires "with the most traction", you do your damnedest to balance the weight across all four tires because there's more traction available on four tires than anything less.

getting an instructor in the car is always a huge help.

and keep in mind the basics of braking in a straight line, being smooth, and always looking a corner ahead
