For my 2016 RCF, I bought a used eBay special wallet card, making sure the fcc id was the same as the “lexus RCF ones I’ve seen online. I also ordered a non oem metal key blank. Found a locksmith where I live, and he was able to un program it from whatever suv it was probably used for prior lol, and cut the metal key...both work like a charm..but I do live in Vegas...where we can get pretty much get anything done for the right price lol.

ROFL. I'm ordering this now and got this email from the dealer:

*The status of your order has changed and we wanted to keep you up to date:
"Good afternoon, Just to inform you the key that you ordered will not come cut to your vehicle and also will not fit in your transmitter. Please email us back if you would like to cancel your order. Once we order the car we cannot take it back. Thank you"

This is exactly what I am ordering according to our thread and parts posted above for my 2020 RCF.

Now I see this as well for a card key...It only has 2020-2021 but is $100 cheaper than the above part number for the credit card key....?

Now I'm royally confused.

Don't cancel your order, yes you will need to have the key cut, but it will fit in the card key.

The 24021 is listed for 2015-2021 RCF.

Boy, dealerships don't make this easy to they? If your still not certain, call the guys at Bell Lexus and let them know there's 2 part numbers listed for a card key and you want to know which one to order. They've been really helpful in the past.

Welp they cancelled my order. Both places are telling me this is not compatible. The second picture I posted is $170 compared to $230 for the credit card key.

Email about that I got from my local dealer:
"The 89904-24440 fits vehicles made 9/20 & later which for us means 2021 model year vehicles not 2020’s. The previous number you provided does fit some RCF’s but when I have your VIN loaded in our parts catalog it won’t allow me to choose it for your RCF. I have to deselect your VIN to be able to choose that part. I don’t have any information as to why it isn’t an option."

I looked at my VIN and my car was made 8/20. So I guess I'm going to assume that the above part number even though is cheaper might not work. But I feel like 8990424021 shuld work. It's almost annoying when you have to enter your VIN when ordering stuff and then they deny it. Now I will order from Belle and just not put my VIN in.

I do wonder why the price difference between the two keys though. Seems strange.
----------------------

EDIT:

Talked to Joe from Belle Lexus. Super nice guy and knew 100% wtf he was talking about.
The part numbers of: Card key transmitter: 8990424021
Blank key, for card key: 6951530350 are correct!

In fact as I was explaining how no other dealer knew wtf was going on, he read off the part number to me off his head. So apparently between here and FB we are ordering a lot of these credit card keys from them..hahahah

He told me the reason that the vehicles are coming up as not compatible, is unless the credit card key CAME with the car from the factory it will not be tied to the VIN. Therefore when it's looked up, it comes up as not valid/compatible with the vehicle.

The part number that I listed abve via the newer one
89904-24440. He explicitly stated this is for models made from 9/20 and HIGHER. So if your model was made prior (mine was made in 08/20,) then you need to order the first set of part number listed. If your build date is 9/20 and later then you will order the part number 89904-24440.

Yay! Ordered and now patiently waiting. Once it comes in, I'll take pictures or make a video of how to program the key via techstream. No way I'm paying the dealer to do it. Only thing dealer is going to do is cut the key if the lock locksmith dude can't.

That's awesome. So amazing when you talk to a knowledgeable person. Good to know about the 2021 getting a new part number.

Every time this question comes up on Facebook I send them a Bell Lexus link. Wonder if i can get a finder's fee, lol.

Yay add me to the list.

I honestly thought this key was going to feel very plasticky and cheap but it has some heft to it I like it a lot.

I picked up two rear seat grommets at the dealer today since I broke them removing the back seat to tint my window It I asked if they could cut the key surprisingly they don't do that they only order keys they're already cut... Lol
Looks like I'll be going to the locksmith on Friday hopefully he can cut the blank. I'll add the key via tech stream here probably over the weekend.

I was going to do a write up on using techstream to register the new credit card key but honestly I found this thread and it contained everything. It was literally a 3 minute job and super easy to do.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...ogramming.html

The pictures that I attached say Prius but it's exactly how the process went for me.

Open techstream. Go to Key Code Registration. Then go to Utilities on the left hand side of the screen. Then just follow exactly what it prompts you to do.

Only have one key in the car with you. Make sure the other key is not anywhere near the car. Start the precheck in TechStream. It verifies you don't have another key, cell phone. and the car is on. Once you click ok. Click Start. It asks you within 30 seconds to hold your existing registered key up up to the push start button. You will hear the car make a beeping noise (like if you armed it), once you hear the beeping noise, Techstream then tells you to go get the new key you want to register and put that over the push button and wait for it to beep. (MAKE sure you do not have the previous key around you). Then it tells you it's done and your credit card key is now registered to the car.

I verified by starting the car with my credit car key and the car starts up..

Super EASY. Like a 1 out of 10 in terms of difficulty.

Hope that helps. I'm going to the local lock smith tomorrow hoping they can cut the key. I undid the small bolt on the side of the door to get the lock cylinder number incase they need that for their computer. Might not be needed but I figured better to have it than to need it and not have it and make another trip.

I'm gonna have to call foul. I paid a lot for my card key, and my car does not pickup on it.

I will try again when I have a few hours to waste.

Went through the whole process, the key card was not recognized or picked up by my car.

Was it a new card key ordered by vin ?
So, the key to be registered didn't beep when you went through that step?
Did you always keep one key outside the door?
