Default Interim Recall for Fuel Pump(s)

Love this Forum. Long time reader on here and finally ready to pull the plug and purchase a used RCF (2015 Silver/Black with PP-Carbon Fiber Roof/Wing). Today when I ran the VIN for the vehicle I am looking at purchasing on CarFax an Interim Recall for Fuel Pumps on RCFs, GSFs & LC500s came up. Wondering if anyone knows anything about it? I thought the only known fuel pump issue was the Reflash to get rid of the noise that some cars experienced. Thanks

Here is what was listed on CarFax:
NHTSA #Pending
Manufacturer Safety recall issued
Recall #J2B SAFETY RECALL JLB (INTERIM J2B) -
INTERIM NOTICE CERTAIN 2015-2018 MODEL YEAR RC F
VEHICLES CERTAIN 2016-2018 MODEL YEAR GS F
VEHICLES CERTAIN 2018 MODEL YEAR LC 500 VEHICLES
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS
Status: Remedy Not Available

Here is what it said on the NHTSA website:
Manufacturer Recall NumberJ2B
NHTSA Recall NumberAWAITING#
Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet availableSummaryThe involved vehicles are equipped with two high pressure fuel pumps. There is a possibility that the cover of one of these pumps could become damaged over time and lead to a fuel leak.

Safety RiskA fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

RemedyTBD

That's a new one to me and at first read, I thought it was just the flash as you stated but it appears what you are showing is more.

I just had my car in for service and I was not told of any recalls.

I would like to learn more too.

Thanks for notifying. I searched my VIN and sure enough, Lexus Canada has issued a recall for all model years for the RCF. Though, it says "no action required". Will have to call my Lexus dealership to find out an ETA on it.

"Descriptionand in the attached document. No other immediate action is required by you at this time.

The involved vehicles are equipped with two high pressure fuel pumps. There is a possibility that the cover of one of these pumps could become damaged over time and lead to a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a vehicle fire."

Called my Lexus dealership to see if they had any details on the remedy as to whether it is a replacement of the high pressure fuel pumps and an ECU reflash or just part replacement. They said no remedy has been rolled out yet so will have to check back later. Hopefully, I can get it done with my upcoming 10,000 miles service and oil change in May.

This is the same issue we talked about a long time ago, where you knew the failure was coming when you heard the "blow dryer" sound under your seat, right? I did indeed hear that and I got mine swapped out. I just hit 20,000 miles today and I've been solid since, as that was around 11,000 miles when it started to fail.

Cheers,

No. This is the HPFPs on the valve covers. This affects all RC F, GS F, and LC 500 models in the attached document.

I hope this can be done from outside. I don't trust those service guys ripping out my interior and the smell of gasoline in the car!

Does anybody know how they will access it?

Default Recall

I contacted my dealership yesterday and i was informed that they still don’t have the necessary parts in stock yet. 😳
the guy i spoke to stated that they will be sending letters to all affected owners notifying them of the issue and when to stop by to fix it in the meantime he stated that it was safe to drive the car. So let’s see how long it will take them to remedy to this.

i feel the same. This is good for the guys with higher mileage. you get a new and IMPROVED fuel pump.

if its accessed from inside which it should be in the back seat somewhere, I'm going to let the dealer know ill take everything off inside for them to access. i want to make sure after i get it back to detail the area myself before putting all of the interior back in.
