Default Grade of fuel used for your RC F (Merged Threads)

I got my RC-F 2 months ago and I'm very happy with it. However the users manual says that it is recommended to 98 octane fuel, and the highest in my country is 95, which is equivalent to 91 in USA. I know this because when the cars are tuned here they use the US-91 octane base map.

Does lower octane cause any harm to the vehicle, or only some performance loss?

My car has only 300 miles on the ODO, and I'm asking this because I haven't been able to break the 5s in 0-60. I was thinking about adding some Torco octane booster to raise it to US 95 equivalent, but once I reach at least 1000 miles.

All we have in CA is 91 octane and that runs fine. What country do you live in

Yeah 91 is what they recommend here in the states.

Using lower octane fuel can lower performance slightly, and potentially cause parts to degrade a little sooner in the long-term. If you had to fill up with 87 once a year it wouldn't make a difference, but you wouldn't want to do that regularly obviously.

As far as 0-60 times, there's a LOT more variables there than fuel octane. Not to mention there seems to be a hidden "self-protect limiter" for the first ~700 miles or so that you haven't broken through yet. Wait until you put a couple thousand miles through it and learn the car and I'm sure you can squeeze out better times. There are some other threads on here about the limiter and about tricks for getting best 0-60 times, but that's definitely a bit of an art to perfect.

Good luck.

Sunoco 93 octane is great fuel. I ran it in my ISF for 3.5 years.

I live in Panama. My RC-F now has almost 600 miles, and in the past couple days it felt like it was more willing than before, my traction light flashed in many occasions when I put my foot down while exiting a corner, and this didn't happen as frequently in the past.

When I hit 1,000mi I'll try some torco and raise it to 93 octane, then I'll report back.

Premium here is 93 octane, I just recently started putting ethanol free 93 in my car. Gets a little better gas mileage.

Hey bro we do have 102 octane here in Los Angeles.
Time to time I mix 50/50 to bump the number a little higher.
I know of two gas stations that have some at the pump.

the owners manual/manufacture calls for 91 octane or higher.

using a lower grade can void your warranty, it will create more knocking and pinging and the car will run to quote 4tehNguyen "like ***"

high compression motors require higher octane fuel.

I would question why someone would buy an $80,000 470hp performance car and then cheap out on the fuel.

if someone needs to save 10-15 cents per gallon on the fuel for their $80,000 car, sounds to me like they bought a car they can't afford to properly maintain.

No I would never use anything less than the manufacture recommended grade of fuel, oil, or any other fluid in the vehicle.

Why would you use Regular when the Manual states use 92/93 or Premium (just like the gas cap states)? All these cars on this YT video that they were showing are Supposed to use Regular. If a Vehicle is Tuned for a Certain Octane THAT'S What you USE, if not it's going to Spit & Sputter & probably do a lot more than that to the engine after awhile!
