I did an two week mpg test on 87 vs 89 vs 91.
My test course was my route to work which is mostly highway with some city driving near the end. 87 octane was ~16mpg. 91mpg was ~22mpg. 89mpg was around ~20.
If you want to save money on gas, get Costco premium.

I hope everyone is aware that there is no real point in comparing gasoline brands because gasoline stations are fueled up usually by the closest tanker, thus there is no guarantee that a Shell Station is actually dispensing Shell gasoline. Have you noticed that 90% of the time, a gasoline station is being filled by an unmarked tanker? Each brands additives are added into the gas station tanks. The logistics of what refinery brand of gasoline goes into your local station depends on which tanker is the closest at the time of the order. So, when you fill up at Shell, you are getting a mixed brand of gasoline (such as Mobil, Chevron etc), i.e., whatever brand was in the tanker that was sent.

I get Octane 94 for my RCF without any ethanol every time. Brand is not relevant as long as it has no ethanol and is Octane 94. Have to pay extra, but it is worth it for piece of mind.

Now if one is better than the other that's kinda hard to say but I will say that I agree you should always run a top tier and go to the busy stations to buy because of sells they will have the fresher gas. Especially if it has ethanol. Ethanol usually starts to "phase out" starts to separate from the gas around the 2 weeks mark. Then what could have been 93 is no longer 93 is more like 87. Hope this info helps
