Default Auto shifting direction

Please excuse my basic knowledge of how this whole process work...

I hate the fact that this car uses a pull backwards to downshift and a push forward to upshift on the stick. It seems so counterintuitive to me. I've had other cars that were opposite and I loved them. In today's modern electronics in these cars, isn't this all done with computers? Why can't these be switched? Maybe it's far more complicated than that. Can someone explain it to me?

Thanks in advance!

Why not just use the paddle shifters? I recently sold my Tundra and it was the same. After a while I got used it but I understand why it feels weird.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the responses, but if I wanted to use the paddle shifters I wouldn't have asked this question.

My 2007 MDX is the same way and it is the only other car I have owned with that functionality. It is intuitive to me because it is consistent with gear selectors on automatic transmission cars since the 60's. PRND21 - Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, low 2, low 1. If you put it in first, you push away to move to second and drive, and pull toward you to downshift.

Yup. Lexus has it right. Up is up and down is down.
my infiniti had it backwards and I hated it.

In motorsport, up/away is downshift, down/toward is upshift. Even Porsche f'ed it up for a long time until the latest PDK-S in GT3s. Their steering wheel button action was the absolutely worst until they, again, fixed it when they reluctantly moved from steering buttons to steering paddles.

I never use the gear shift. 98% manual sport+ paddles. The gear shift was never really designed for frequent use.

Personally the only time I use the stick is when I'm cornering or hard turns. I agree with the others, Lexus got it right, shift up push up.

This. For those with experience with sequential gearboxes, this is the standard. It's one of my biggest disappointments with the design.

I fully agree with the OP, I would much prefer up to downshift and back to upshift so you are not fighting inertia.

I emailed a few people about this. No luck as of yet.
Anyone know if this is available somwhere or backwards compatable with another model?

I did the wiring mod on my IS-F. I'm sure the same can be done with the RC-F. Just a matter of knowing which wires to swap.

Edit: Looked in my wiring diagram, switch the purple and pink wire on the connector going to the shifter assembly and there you go!
