Default New CL 2017 RC F review

Our own Patrick Morgan is a proper track rat, and he loved the RC F. You can kind of tell immediately, as his post title starts with "True Romance" ...

That's like my car and nice read.

Can't wait to get the F out in about a month after winter clears. One nitpick with the article is the mention of the wheels being 20" instead of 19".

Thanks for the fact check — and you have a heck of a car! I actually did the launch for it a couple years back at Monticello in New York. It was a great time!

I believe the car that is being reviewed has the torque vectoring diff. Base model has the torsen diff.

TVD should be standard like the GS F imo.

Cool. I just pinged the author to see if he'll chime in. He's a really cool dude.

Those flubs regarding the wheel size and equipped diff are both correctly pointed out.

The base model does have a Torsen, which is perfectly competent enough, however the TVD is directly responsible for the sure-footedness mentioned in the review. In the "F" display on the dash, it has an interactive bar graph, with each bar representing how evenly (or un-evenly) the torque is being distributed to each wheel. As exciting as it is to watch, it's not so easy to do when going around corners! "Standard", "slalom," and "track" are the three settings, and I felt the car was most enjoyable and predictable in the Track setting, however with no ability to really give it the beans on a track, I can't say exactly what it would feel like on the limit.

"You’ll need to wait until both fluids are right about at the center mark before you’re allowed to have fun. Even so, you might not be able to use the paddle shifters till the gearbox is warmed up."

I'll be honest. This is the first time I've heard of this "warming up" cycle.

I was extremely impressed withTVD! You could even feel its effect as a passenger in the car on the track!
in my opinion, this option is worth every penny
,
for what it's worth, almost every car at the official Lexus performance school we recently attended was equipped with this option, with different settings used at different events.
