Default Lexus CAN'T match Molten Pearl color - watch out/be careful while driving!

Update: At the end of numerous visits to see if the dealer matched my color or not, Lexus corporate guys coming down, calling in PPG paint specialists, etc. and 3 months of wait time, it was finally taken care of. I will post pictures once I get a chance to. I guess not too many body shops will have the right people with experience to replica a factory 4-stage paint jobs. I understand paint may never 100% match, but as you can see from my pictures, its way off. But at least they finally got it right. Although, it took some time, I'm very happy with the outcome! On point!

If you need paint work done to your molten pearl RC, choose wisely who you take your car to. I notice that a lot of aero painted to match molten pearl is mostly off, so it may take several times to get it almost or exactly the same.

Now, here is the side Longo Lexus repainted. As you can see, it doesn't match.

Dude, that sucks. I'm not a paint expert, but you can tell it has too much yellow in it on the repainted side. I don't know if it's caused by the lighting. But damn, I've seen your car in SGV, and I will probably lose sleep over this.

It most definitely sucks.

Its definitely not the lighting, I took pictures of both sides of my car with light adjustments to bright and dark setting on my Galaxy S7. In both pictures, you can clearly see that the paint doesn't match. The passenger side is flawless, as it should be, under all types of lighting. Anyone that's not color blind can tell that the repainted parts have too much yellow in it.

Only time you can't tell at all is when you are looking at the driver side only in direct sunlight. All flaws are visible when it's not in sunlight or at other angles.

That's definitely off.

The best way to look at paint work is outside under a cloudy day without direct sunlight.

Its bs they cannot match color, just takes a lot of trial and error.

It doesn't match, and probably never will. Only two logical options: 1) reshoot the whole car; 2) sell it, and start over. I'd go with 2).

Sorry man, it does look totally off. From my limited experience, any panel re-paint for special colors require blending to make it look right. Unless the panels are painted at the same time with the same mix of paint, it won't match even if they have the exact color code. Is there a reason you won't allow them to try blending (At least as a last resort)?

It doesn't match at all. It's so obvious especially between the panels. I could not accept that. I would have them keep working on the color until it's matched. It's an issue of commitment and effort, not technology. I hope it works out.

I agree with you on both points you have.

If I were to sell this car, another RCF would NOT be an option. RCF is a nice car, but not nice enough for me to lose $25K from what I bought it for, then get another one after that.

They already painted my door and front fender to "blend" it in and that didn't fix anything, it just made a bigger problem; more of the car not matching. But with a color being very off, painting another panel or bumper won't make a difference, imo. If anything, they need to repaint the whole car.

Lets hope next try or 2 they can match this. If this isn't coming out any better, I'll ask them to repaint the whole car to match. All these tries of painting one side of the car, they might as well paint the whole car at once. This way, at least everything will match.

Scott, sorry about your car man. I really hope they fix this ASAP. Maybe repainting the whole car would be the best solution ?

I hate to say it but yes the color looks off but blending it into the bumper might help the consistency

So much for customer service..

Good luck, hope you resolve this resolution. If Longo doesn't want to fix it, my friends at Signature Autobody might be able to. They work on many exotic vehicles from fender bender damage to full on repainting cars. They did the Fugu-Z.

Damn! Scott, I hope your RCF gets better soon so, we can drive altogether... By the way, try Platinum VIP. They have a collision center too and they usually do Lexus... Maybe they can help...

I agree with the posts about taking it to an outside shop that specializes in expensive cars.

Some years ago, I took my LS400 (silver) to the dealer to to repaint the fender as it had a deep scratch. They totally botched it as it never matched and I eventually got rid of the car because I couldn't take looking at ir.

Fast forward to a LS460 (another silver) that I got rear ended on and needed to replace the bumper. Took it to a reputable shop and it didn't quite match but they apologized and shot it again. The 2nd time was flawless and you could not tell no matter what light it was in.

Bottom line is the dealer employs hacks that have no idea what they're doing. I realize it may be a little late for you now but hopefully your insurance and/or Lexus will agree to paint the entire car offsite.

Good luck!

Don't get body work done at dealer bodyshops, they are definitely not quality shops they are just the default for people who don't know better and "drop the car off at the dealer" for quality work. Shop around and find the actual high quality body shops in your area.
