Default Lexus RC350 F Sport Maintenance

I recently took my car to have its complimentary 10,000 mile service done at Lexus of Woodland Hills. The service advisor informed me that the front brakes were at 60% and the rear were at 90%. He also said that my tires were at 70%. At this rate, it would seem that I would have to replace my front pads at around 20,000 miles. Does this seem normal?

Ideally, I'd like to replace everything only once during my 36 month lease term.

Even though I dont own one yet( still looking). That seems a little excessive. Do you do a lot of city "stop and go" driving?

I would say it's a combination of both city and freeway driving. However, the freeways are sometimes "stop and go" due to the unavoidable traffic in Los Angeles. But I still think that the brakes are wearing out too fast.

The IS350 has the same brakes and it's common to replace every 15-20k. If you want longevity, go Akebono ceramics. You may lose a little performance though.

That does seem too soon. I had a 2014 GS 350 F-Sport (same front suspension and brakes) and went 30k + miles no problem in lots of stop and go driving.
Good news is if you really need front brake pads they are super easy to change and only about $62.

I'm at 35k miles and some of that is pretty rough driving and I haven't had to change mine yet. But as posted above, its easy to do it yourself.

I'm amazed that you've been able to get that much mileage out of your brakes. Is it possible that mine are defective? If not, can 60% last me until 25k miles?

I cannot say what other manufacturers should get from their front brake pads. But, my last 3 vehicles all never needed any brake pads replaced all the way up to when I traded them in.
2012 Jetta TDI sold back to dealer at 125K miles
2008 Toyota Tacoma 4WD. traded in with 118K miles
2000 Chevy Silverado 4WD Traded in with 148K miles

I drive 94 miles round trip every day that I go to work. I sometimes work 7 days a week. My whole commute is 95% highway. I go to work very early and am there by ~6am. I usually get caught in some traffic on my way home. maybe stop and go for 10-15 minutes.

Not a big deal if they do wear faster on the RC 350. I do all my own maintenance and have done so for a few decades. Unless I need to crack open the motor.

btw... got a line on a RC 350. waiting for the salesman to call me back :-)

Hi Louczar,
Since you do your own maintenance on your cars, I's like to ask if you know how to unhook the clips on the positive side of the battery on an RC350 F Sport. The clips are holding positive side cables in place on a plastic battery cage, for what reason, I do not know. But they are a problem as I do not know how to unhook them and free the case to be removed and then Change out the battery. Any help on this clip problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

I bought mine CPO witih 20k on it, the brakes had been swapped already in CPO prep. Around 40-42k I needed brakes and did Akebendo ceramic pro and now I'm around 60k and will be checking the life this weekend coming assuming they need to be swapped again soon. I think the biggest reason for the faster than average life on them is the weight of the car, its a lot of mass to stop.

My son's IS250 has 100K on it. Original brake pads. Just had tires put on it, brakes are fine. My RC350 has 56K, still original
pads as well. Mine recently checked, just fine. I guess we never stop. Plus as far as "mass" of a car, the brakes are well designed
to get the job done. It doesn't weigh all that much different than it's competitors. Also my Fsport has bigger brakes than the basic to begin
with.

Never trust the stealership. If you have time, jack the car up, remove the wheel and check it yourself. There are many youtube videos on howto check a lexus brake pads. I will only believe it when I see it.

Sorry unless that's 100k of nothing but highway driving I'm raising a BS flag on 100k on factory brakes. The weight of the car certainly affects longevity of brakes, the heavier the car the more work the brakes need to do regardless of how well designed they are, the more they work the faster they wear. Fast wear has nothing to do with longevity.

My 2016 IS200T needed new front brakes (pads and rotors) every 11-13k miles. F Sport with the big brakes up front and OEM Professional German Lexus pads. Common for sports sedans.

If you're a gentler driver you can get 20-30k max.
