RR Racing Tune in 2014 IS250 Base RWD
Hello All,
I recently installed the OBDII RR-Racing ECU tune in my base IS250 (not an F-Sport). Like many owners I wanted a little more power and improved acceleration plus the higher rev limit. So far I'm not disappointed! The only other mod I have is an AEM cold air intake.
I ordered the OBDII programmer on a Saturday and received it about 3 business days later. That night I followed the instructions provided in the box, plugged the the programmer into my PC and updated it. Next I connected the programmer to my car with the included cable and copied the factory tune from my ecu. I emailed the factory tune to RR-Racing. The next day Simon emailed me and said this was a new ECU for them so they would create a custom tune and email it the following day. After receiving the new tune I installed it in my car and drove it. Within one mile of driving my car went into limp mode, that is it shut everything down to the point where I could only drive about 25 miles per hour. I went back to my house, reinstalled the original factory tune and made sure the car was fine, which it was. I installed the RR tune again and drove. This time it seemed that everything was okay. I had one glorious run to 7200 RPM before the car went into limp mode. I reinstalled the factory tune and emailed Simon to let him know there were issues. Within one day Simon emailed me a new tune, I installed it, and ever since then everything has been running great! There is a definite increase in acceleration and shifting is harder when you floor it, with an audible "click" when it shifts. Shifting while it is floored takes place right at the rev limit of 7200 RPMs in both Drive and Sport mode (my base 6-speed auto car doesn't have Sport+). So far I am very pleased with this tune and want to thank Simon and RR-Racing for their excellent customer service. Not sure yet how this tune affects gas mileage since I've been driving more aggressively lately. The combination of the tune plus Michelin Pilot SS AS3+s and the AEM intake, has greatly increased the fun factor and enhanced the car's personality.

I was looking at doing this with their intake and tune on my IS350 F sport... and eventually I'll pickup the ARK DTS exhaust which isn't too obnoxious ... how has MPG been so far?

With fairly aggressive mostly-city driving I’m averaging 26 MPG. Going to switch to Eco mode for a couple of days and will drive conservatively to see if it improves. It’s going to be in the high 90’s this week in San Antonio so that will impact MPG to some degree. My daily commute is only 12 miles total so gas mileage hasn’t been a priority lately but it will be interesting to see.

Thanks for the input on the tune CarEnth.
I was looking at getting this for my AWD 2014 IS250 F Sport...realizing that it will never be a 350, just a few extra horses would make it drive so much nicer.
Realistically 300+ hp would be nice, but the 250 just needs another 20-30 hp to make it more driveable...which is all I'm looking for.

I drove less aggressively over the past few days using Eco and Normal modes. In mixed city and highway driving with 95 degree or higher air temps, I’m averaging 29MPG. To me that’s very good.

wow that is impressive but I'd be shocked if an IS350 could get those numbers... I was able to get ~18 mpg today on a long road trip so that's not bad... although this is only my second tank of gas lol

Pole Position
I don't see how that's possible. I have the 4 banger turbo and the best I get mixed driving and not even aggressively is about 25 to 26 MPG. Do tell us your secret lol.

anyone have any concerns about tuning the ECU with an active Enform subscription? I know the computer does track our driving habits, location, hard braking, acceleration etc so does it know if the computer has been modified when it calls home? Or do you flash it back to stock before taking it into the shop to avoid issues?

See, I really wanna ad extra hp to my 250 but there is one dude with 3.5l swap(300++hp), so I'm like hmm tune or swap engine down the road. @@ is the driving better with 2 persons? Cause I know my 250 is barely accelerate with 2 persons. Single person is ok. It's not fast but at least I don't feel like the car can't accelerate with 2 persons.
