Hello everyone,

I have a 98 GS300 with a 2JZGTE VVT-i Aristo swap. I've had a CD009 sitting in my garage for almost a year now. I plan on installing it over the next few months. One thing I've been unclear about is how the stock Aristo ECU will behave with the CD009. I had a 01 GS430 with an Aristo VVTi swap and a W58. Everything ran fine with no issues. That swap was done about 7 years ago by a local performance shop. This time around I plan on doing it myself.

The reason I am creating this post is because some have mentioned that an emulator would be required for swapping any manual trans into a 2JZGTE VVT-i. Since my first swap worked perfectly fine without it, what would people recommend having an emulator for this time around? Anyone with a 2JZGTE VVTi- and no emulator, please chime in with your experiences.

Not really offering any help but I am interested in seeing how this swap goes and so if you're considering documenting the process or lessons learned you will have at least one avid follower.
i believe I have read that the speed signal is generated by a rotating gear on the transmission and that you may need to replicate this to retain you speedometer functionality.

Seems like many that go this route are already or moving toward a standalone ECU.

I’m not sure how much help it’ll be as I’m still running a GE, but I recently swapped in a CD009 using the Collins kit. I tried to use resistors to eliminate the codes I was getting due to the missing auto trans, but ultimately decided to go with an AT emulator(mainly to get rid of the CEL). Through research on the emulator, it is supposed to keep the ECU from going into limp mode and retarding timing a massive amount. Once I installed it, it did seem like the car was running smoother. It wasn’t too bad prior to the emulator but it seemed to hesitate a little from a stop which I kind of thought was due to the DBW but it seems to be better now. I’d be willing to do my best to be of any help regarding the CD swap if you need, although most of your questions can probably be answered through various build threads. Additionally, your speedo will work fine as the speedometer gets its signals via the ABS wheel sensors. Good luck!

i'm interested in seeing this through. in 6th gear what would the RPM's be at going 80MPH though?
