Hey guys, i'm starting to buy some things for my 2016 IS300 AWD - base model.
I just bought some RSR down springs and a few cosmetic items (Thank you Josh from Mer Autoworks). Now on to some engine mods for moar powah...just a few questions
What tuner/tune have you gone with and what's your feedback? It seems RR-Racing tune is fairly popular. Do they tune for stock or do they tune with consideration of all the mods you have (ie, headers, intake, exhaust)?
I plan on going with PPE headers - i don't think there's much other choices out there for this car.
Now on to the cat-back exhaust - I don't want an obnoxiously loud exhaust and i want minimal to no drone, what's the quietest setup for this keeping in mind the tune and the headers above. I know ARK is popular around here but are there other alternatives that's not loud?
Appreciate all the help! Enjoying this ride so far!
Hi Chino, unfortunately, we do not have a kit readily available right now, but we do have one in development. Our systems are designed with daily drivers in mind, so the volume is usually a step or two above stock with a much deeper tone. If you would like to stay updated on this system's availability via email, you can visit the product page on our website below and click on the "notify when in stock" button. If there are any other questions we can answer in the meantime, don't hesitate to ask!
Ok I think this is the setup I want, any feedback is appreciated or anyone that has done this setup with fitment issues or comments i'd appreciate it.
PPE headers
Invidia Midpipe
Now for the Axle back, It seems they are all "loud". Out of all of them, i can't decide which one is "quietest" - invidia, magnaflow, borla
Just wanna make sure there's no fitment problems with these items for my car. Thanks!
hi.... They are not all loud. If you get headers, you need a good exhaust because an Invidia system with headers will be very raspy. I highly recommend the ARK Grip. Not only is it available with high flow cars, but it’s easily the best sounding system when paired with headers. The large canister resonators in the back really take out the rasp, and give it a nice and mellow tone.
We sell complete header/exhaust/tune packages, and I’m sure we can hook you up with a good price

I ordered the ecu tune, headers and intake last week from the website. If it's not too late, you can give me a discount on that existing order
I plan on ordering the ark exhaust in the next 2 weeks or so.

So i got everything installed yesterday....i tell you, it took me 3 days to do it without a lift but it's definitely doable. rr-racing intake, rr-racing tune, ppe headers, ark exhaust, rsr springs
For anyone who's done this before, i have a couple of questions.
1. There's some sort of hiss and i can't tell if it's from the headers or the exhaust when it's revving down, is this normal?
2. After an hour of driving, the cel came on and the car went into throttle mode, i forgot to grab the code but the description was "inefficient catalyst", i went ahead and cleared it but if it comes back i'll grab the code. anyone experience this?
Overall i'm happy with the outcome, i just need new wheels. i've definitely put down some money on this car for the 4 weeks i've had it lol
Cat code is because your headers removed the primary cats. Let rr racing know, they should be able to send you a tune that turns that off permanently.
I've also got an is300 awd, doubt I'll be going so extreme anytime soon with mods but definitely want that tune!
Give us a good review and maybe some vids!
I’ve been emailing simon from rr racing and he’s asked me for some info. 02 sensor is supposed to be included in the tune that’s why I’m surprised the cel came on. I’m awaiting rr racing’s response. I can't recommend this tune until this is figured out!

Any update on this? This is quite disappointing as this seems like a basic and expected CEL that should have been eliminated by the tune, especially if you bought this with their header/exhaust/tune package. I was planning to get this package in December, but maybe not. :/

this was resolved. they sent me a new file that gets rid of the cel. it's been good since then.
on a side note - i'm actually selling the axle back for the ARK grip exhaust as it's too loud for me and my kids. i bought a tanabe medallion as a replacement. i kept the midpipe for the ark and i haven't seen any noticeable power difference.

It's good to see they took care of you quickly. Do you have a unique setup or something? I wonder why this file isn't included as a baseline to begin with? Did they explain? What year is your car and did you buy their complete package? Was the Tanabe drastically more quiet?
