Question for those with a tune, especially @Sheddy, does the TTI tune bring back the low end punch that Lexus seems to have tuned out of this motor? I traded in an MK7 GTI for an IS200T and the Lexus feels soo down on power even though both motors are 2.0T. The Lexus does not have the low end punch that turbo motors tend to have, and makes this car feels slow. I've read that there is a full throttle limitation in the factory tuning 'till about 4k rpms, in hopes of mimicking the feel of a small NA v6. I don't like the power delivery and would be interested in the tune if it addresses this situation.

Also, what does the TCU tune do? Faster shifts? Hold onto lower gears longer? The oem tuning feels like its programmed to rush to the highest gear possible. This causes it to constantly downshift at any stab of the throttle since there's no power to be found at low rpms. Does the TCU tune change the shift programming?

Thanks,

-Andre

Hey Andre. Other than the fact that the GTI is FWD the 200t does have a very noticeable delay. The TTI re-flash tune does improve the throttle response over stock but the lag is not entirely gone. Toyota seem to have addressed this issue on their 2019 models but we are not sure if its a hardware or software update. I am hoping that if it is a software upgrade the dealer can perform an ECU update (highly unlikely) or perhaps a tuner can mirror the new throttle mapping. Unfortunately I did not get the TCU tune so i would leave that response for someone who has.

Sooo on my Lexus I have a catback exhaust, downpipe, charge pipe, tune, and cold air intake. I was wondering pulsing all that extra power would I need to upgrade radiator hoses and all that? (I have the burger Motorsport jb4 tune.) so all and all I’m not pushing an excessive amount of horsepower but not sure if the engine and or oem parts can take it (it’s a 2016 with 26,200 miles on it)

The hybird turbo for our motor is not worth it IMO. This company created a bracket that allows an aftermarket turbo like this Garrett GT28 to be used on the Honda L15B motor. TTI or RR Racing should look into this for the 8AR motor once a proper tuning software/solution is found.

Not a bad idea. Maybe once this car get solder we'll see some stuff. Nobody wants to jerk around with a 50k car still. who's doing that to brand new hondas? the rest of the car is certainly not built for that... dudes must have some deep pockets or be real risk takers!

With our 2.06 Development we picked up a 200T car specifically for development.
We now have a vehicle strictly for R/D for what we are coming out with. I think you guys will be very happy to see what we have been working on over the last 8 months for the 8ARFTS.
next week we will be posting some more details. I've already got the EFR sitting on my desk for it.

We are starting from a 100% bone stock 8AR. For nearly a year we have been studying the code and are so confident we went up and picked up a vehicle strictly for development . We're all setup as CL Vendor and will be documenting everything

They are making 400whp 386wtq on their 1.5L Civic SI BT kit. I would love that kind of power for our car!

400whp with stock internals on a 1.5l sounds like a death trap. Any previous turbocharged four would need extreme internal upgrades. It’s gotta have internal upgrades if not that’s a 2-3mo engine before it pops

I’m just curious as to what TTI was trying to sell it for... I have someone that’s actively having a turbo built for they’re NX by a local company for less than $1200. In my opinion the modified turbo is worth it. It’s a quick easy swap good for 350whp.
I only say this because swapping the turbo entirely would be extremely expensive. Considering a Garrett isn’t cheap 1-2k for the turbo alone. brackets, custom intercooler/charge piping, possible intercooler swap, new intake fittings, new downpipe/exhaust piping, bov/dump, labor etc. guarantee that Honda 1.5l is probably almost 10k usd deep

If we’re doing 350whp with very light mods (downpipe/turbo mod) then honestly a garret turbo would probably get us another 100-150whp. Which 350-450whp with our 8speed rwd would be a unicorn for sure. You should pull the trigger sheddy and quit posting crap about a Honda love u

I wonder that the heck TRd is doing with this tg20 engine. That **** should be available by now, unless it’s for the next mr2... a 2800lb rocket. Even though 3300lbs in a 2.0t is relatively impressive I wouldn’t buy a Supra 2.0t unless you plan on swapping engines

When you want to make a lot of power it is difficult to do so cheaply.
Even still, we have not yet seen the true limit of the stock turbocharger.

our development thread is available for everyone and we will be posting a lot of information about how the ECU works and why it's been such a struggle for everyone.
