Today I had a chance to swap cams on the left bank. I swapped them complete with the timing tube on the intake side as well as the cam sprocket. My right bank timing tube does have the red mark on it so I may need to find one with a green mark to finish the cam swap.

The good news though is that I can now drive the car completely normal again. I've put about another 80 miles on it with no DTC'S and I ran the motor up to redline a couple times without any problems. The car feels strong. :-) woot!

I did confirm that the timing tubes are not interchangeable between motors without modification as well.

Maybe a video?

Well, here's a video at the track vs a supercharged xrunner.

But it's old, poor quality, and before the swap. :-) I'll get out to the track again when the track reopens in a month or two. :-)

How can you be sure that the 4.0L ECU improves and not worsens the 4.7L's performance? It is optimized for a different engine. It is now running a "4.0L" with strange compression and timing. I hope you can get dyno results, they will be interesting to see since this is not common.

So just to clarify you're running a 2UZ-FE from a GX470/sequoia/tundra/4runner with 1uz green marked cams? what does the green mark specify? and could you send me the specs/ measurements on those motor mounts you made? huge kudos for doing this, im excited to see where this goes.

Default This is awesome

It would stand to reason this engine has a lot of potential, waitong to be unlocked. Great to see it's running!

Very cool build! I enjoy reading about it. Maybe I can learn a secret or two to pep up my 2UZ in my 4Runner.

No immediate dyno plans at the moment.

Yes, I used a stock motor from a GX470 w/ vvti. I am using GS400 intake manifold, injectors, exhaust manifold, oil pan, Ecu, wiring harness, camshafts and timing tubes. The green mark is on the timing tube (not camshaft). Sorry guys, but I didn't take measurements of the motor mount brackets. :-/

Keep in mind I went this route because I felt this was the best option for my situation. It may be less expensive for someone else to use GS400/430 heads on a 470 block but I didn't really do any research on that. I would like to know if there's a difference in the 4.7 blocks of vvti vs non vvti...

Well, I got a chance to get to the track tonight. I came away a bit frustrated as I had a hard time getting traction off the line. My first run out was like a 16.4 because I was spinning so bad! Lol! Seeing my buddy run an 11.2 in his new GTR didn't help either! :-) I did still manage to improve upon my previous best time during a few of the runs. But not what I was hoping for. My prior best was 14.472 @ 96.718 completely stock (including wheels/tires) @ about 110k miles. The car now has about 213k miles. Still completely stock w/ all original parts except for the 4.7, some chrome 20's and some normal suspension maintenance.
Tonight's best run was 14.335 @ 96.22 spinning my now 295/35/20 chrome 20's off the line @ 213k miles. I was constantly fighting to keep traction even with the wider tires. Obviously there is a good amount of torque increase as I never had this problem before the motor swap. If I remember correctly my best run with these 20" wheels tires was 14.7 or 14.8. I was hoping to get into the upper 13's tonight and I believe I will do it if I can keep from spinning. A few dyno runs would be nice to have also to see some numbers. :-)

The 20s will murder your times.

Get out the stock wheels or something no larger than 18" and dropping the pressure. You'll see your traction issues lessen. There are other tricks too, but none worth doing until you can get your wheel/tire setup squared away.

Sorry didn't read all the posts, but what engine management are you using to compensate the larger displacement, do you have piggy back system, or are you just using the stock ECU from the 4.0?

If so, what is the A/F ratio, aren't you running too lean? I'd imagine lean engine feels like more power, but you're prone for detonation, no?

Yeah, I thought the 295's were going to help me w/ traction but apparently not. They're prob killing my top end too. :-/ The crappy part is I got rid of the stock 17's a few years back. I do have another set of wheels I can borrow from one of my other cars next time I'm out though. They're a staggered aluminum 5 spoke set up. That'll be the closest I have to stock for now.

Yes, all stock Ecu n injectors. I monitored my fuel trims when I first put this together. At first one bank was adding a lot of fuel but it turned out to be from an exhaust leak that was right by an 02 sensor. Fixed that and both short term n long term fuel trims were looking great.
