sold it. the engine overall was still ok, just had broken ring lands on four pistons. he put new pistons in it and overhauled it.

no, it ran fine at 9psi for a while even when driving the **** out of it.
but 9 psi wasn't enough after awhile so i bought a steigmier ported supercharger which pushed it to 12 psi and thats what did it in.
the reason why simple. the engine was originally built with tight tolerances. good motor. but when supercharging, it creates alot more heat. and that means the piston rings end gap needs to be widened to allow for expansion. but i didn't do that. so eventually 12 psi caused to much expansion for the piston ring end gap. which in turn caused dragging the rings on the cylinder walls and than puts pressure on the ring lands. and than they snapped. once the piston ring lands broke the sealing failed and oil was pulled into the combustion chamber and just made things worse. whats funny about how stellar the 3uz is, even after complete failure of the motor, all 8 pistons still had 90 psi. compression. and the motor would still run smooth. but when i got on it and made boost oil puked out everywhere possible.

Gotcha, and this all with stock ecu? I've got a spare 2uz manifold myself and thinking about mirroring your build. Since it's been a few years now would you recommend your manifold build vs something bought? I dont have any welding skills myself so I'd have to bring it a machine shop to have it converted to spec

best option is the bullet cars 2uz manifold. than just cut two inches off the top than weld on a top plate.

I love those rims. I have been thinking about changing mine to something with black inner and silver dish. You have pretty much sealed the deal for me!!!

I feel like badblackgs has finished a lot of beta testing for us. Now us folks with a lower budget can do it without making any costly mistakes. Time to find a 1200 AX and hope my 110v welder is up to the task
It's been an incredible ride watching this build. Thank you for sharing your experience with CL

Default thanks!

If i did it all over again, i would run an intercooler by any means necessary, and use a newer style whipple supercharger which is alot more efficient. but, if i really had to do it all over again, i would run another single turbo like i did before. its just better in every way. i learned alot over the years building this thing up. and know what to do now even better. the single turbo at 12psi. put down 453 horsepower to the wheels. effortlessly. plus, the single turbo allows for plenty of room for intercooling. if i was you, id run the single like i did. cross over the driv. side manifold to a custom pass. side manifold. just like i did in design. all you paying for is materials since you feel like whippin out a welder. and pipe isn't expensive.
