Code 1349 Issues

Vehicle: Lexus GS300
Mileage: 125517
Year: 1998
CEL code: 1349

Im having an annoying issue. The CEL lights up every other week for about a day or two. I take a 30 minute drive on the highway into another town. Im slowing down coming off the off ramp. As soon as I get to a stop, the engine begins to hesitate. The idle drops super low. The CEL lights up. If I dont give it some gas, the engine will die. Ive scanned the code a couple times shortly after it comes up just to make sure its the same issue. The 1349 code definition is a blocked VVTi oil control valve. I decided to start cheap. After reading the DIY on code 1349, I bought and replaced the OCV filter with an OEM replacement from the dealer. The old one looked pretty crusty and dark. It also had a few grounds of oil similar to coffee grounds on a coffee filter. The problem went away after about a week.

Im in the same scenario again. Now Im suspecting a bad OCV solenoid. Before I go out to Lexus and spend the money on a new one, I thought I would first post up to get some input and confirmation if this is indeed the part that is giving me these hesitation issues.

Thanks in advance!

Since I have had no luck with responses, I will now take the time to go out and buy an OCV. I might even buy both sides just to eliminate any possibilities. I'll post up with updates.

Not sure what you mean by both sides. Since you have only one VVT-i pulley, there is only one OCV. The OCV solenoid controls the oil flow that adjust the timing of the VVT-i pulley.

You're right. There is only one solenoid. The dealer tried to tell me there was two. I just replaced it and took it for a highway run. Everything looks good so far. I will be having it smogged tomorrow. Everything should be good. I currently have no CEL.

Just an update. The replacement solenoid solved the CEL code issue.
