re installing stock Is300 intake

Hi Guys,

This is my fist time on this forum. I purchased my is300 used. it came with an ebay intake with no CARB sticker. id like to pass smog, so i put the stock intake back on the car.

I checked all the piped and the MAF everything looks good. I had the battery disconnected when doing the re install.

for some reason, the car is having a hard time breathing. when i push the accelerator the car sputters and eventually shuts off.

Please help, i gotta get this thing to pass smog!!

probably a good chance something was left unhooked, mass air flow sensor, throttle position sensor got bumped, vacuum line, etc...

I will reinstall again and check the MAF direction. Just a thought, do you have to let the car run idle after the install of 20 mins?

Thank you guys!

check the main black connector plug on the TPS (under the black plastic engine cover) to see if it got loose on the throttle body. I had the same problem when I dropped a new motor/trans in......car started up but would shudder and die......it wasn't plugged in all the way.

all intake is carb legal with or without hte carb sticker it will pass. Put the aftermarket intake back on and go get your car smog it will pass. Sticker dont mean **** only to prove if someone is looking at it, the sniffer test at the smog station will easily determine it will pass.

That's simply not true... In California, engine modifications are not legal unless they are CARB approved... an intake is an engine modification, plain and simple...

some places may "overlook" it, but not all, for sure

I have a 2003 lexus is300 sportcross. Mine failed smog yesterday due to the intake not having a CARB sticker. Also because the car is "missing" the 3rd catyclytic converter. It was taken out and replaced with a straight pipe. So it failed for that as well. I bought the car like that. The intake has a spectre filter on it and a spectre sticker on the tube leading into the engine but has nothing indentifying it as for numbers etc. I contacted that company and they said they only made filters for my car. Any suggestions? Or no of any place I can get a stock intake from. Im in cali.

my suggestion is to move out of cali, i live in MD and they dont even open the hood. they just hook up the obd2 scanner and make sure the gas cap dont leak.
