Im in the same boat you are. About everything, 2006 250 AWD, looking for intake. The research iv been doing is you can either put a short ram air intake in her, and from what I have heard, the F-sport is the only legal one. What i plan on is the JoeZ direct flow intake

and suck in hot air and (potentially) loose power. The F-Sport draws cooler, denser air from behind and below the headlight area (rather than hot air from the engine compartment)
F-Sport is CARB legal - doubt this may be a problem in other states but so you know:
The entire F-Sport-engineered assembly is compatible with stock engine controls and, unlike many performance intakes, meets California Air Resources Board requirements, making it emissions-legal in all 50 states.
Add-on and modified parts without an Executive Order after December 31, 2011 will cause the vehicle to fail the visual portion of the Smog Check inspection.
**information taken from both Lexus and ARB**

OP, if you want guaranteed hp (5) then get the FSport or JoeZ
If you want a loud intake, get a K&N or Takeda, which are the louder short rams

The JoeZ with stock box has a distinct sound over the stock tube.
You can get a drop in filter like Blitz or HKS + JoeZ intake tube and should be set for some time. I had 40k miles on my Blitz filter with periodic cleaning and it ran fine.
