Default Paddle Shifting in "D" Mode

Hello everyone,
I own a 2006 IS350 "F" Sport Equipped.
I know the newer models can shift via paddle shifters when the transmission is in "D" Mode.
I would love to down shift via paddles at anytime.
Does anyone know if I can do any up dates on software or anything??

Thank you.

Haven't heard of it being done, but my question is why would you want to? The paddle shifters don't truly control what gear the car is in, it's simply a top gear limiter. So if you have it in "4" it will still shift between gears 1 and 4 by itself, it just won't go past 4.

Killa's right. The feature you're looking for is redundant as the ISx's paddle shifters already perform that feature. Just put it in S-mode and start limiting the gears. If you want the transmission to use all 6 gears, just select 6 and let the transmission row at it's own pace, and if you feel the need to maintain a certain gear, simply downshift.

Thanks guys for you replies,
But what I am looking for is to be able to shift down mostly before a right turn.
Lets say I want be in 2nd gear before a corner, if I have it in S-mode and limited to the top gear (6th), to get in 2nd gear I have to paddle down 4 times to limit the trasmission to 2nd gear.
Even if transmission happened to be in 3rd gear before I start paddling.
Where the newer models (including my old 996TT) you only need to paddle down 1 time even in "D" mode, The transmission mode automatically switches to S mode for 10 or 15 sec, then down shifts from 3rd to 2nd (with paddling once) then you are on your way with higher RPM.
You can up shift if you want or just leave it alone and the transmission mode will switch back to "D". Very cool if you need power instantly.

That is actually pretty cool. Haven't heard of any transmission software for the IS though. Maybe some other members can chime in.

2009+ IS models do this.

Older ones don't.

(It is still just a gear limiter though, the paddles have no direct control over what gear the car is in, all you can do is set what the max gear is).

Hmm even if could do a programming upgrade and make the car switch gears when you just tape the paddle shifter, it would switch into sport mode and put the limiter at 4th gear. It would still switch between 1-4 all it wants too.

No, Sir,
KillaIS250
In the new ones when tapping the paddle (down) transmission will just down **** from the gear it is in.
For example if trany is in 6th will downshift to 5th and switches to S mode for 10 or 15 sec. If no more paddleing done with will switch back to D mode.

Oh, I didn't know it goes into S mode on the paddle shifter as well. I just use the top gear limiter to slow the car down or coast sort of downhill and coasting as a test. I would just switch it back to D mode holding the paddle shifter + for a sec or two.

Hmm didn't know this. On the loaner car I had, everytime I tapped the paddle shifter it would always set the gear limiter to 4.

I have a 2006
in S mode, I can downshift to any gear as long as MPH and revs are correct...
