Post What was everyones first impression after doing the GTE swap

So as the title States i have just finished my GTE swap and sorted all the bugs ect but am i expecting to much from this engine in stock form so far the only mods i have done to it are a larger front mount and 255 fuel pump and i feel it far from what i was expecting.
Obviously it quicker but waht was every ones elses first impressions?

and next question after BPU was the differance night and day.

I'm sure there will be back an forth answers on this; but myself ... Being this is my first boosted car I actually feel its fine where its at(13lbs). The cars my daily so I definitely didn't want to do anything crazy.

Yeah I would say it exceeded, specially on take off. With pipping, 3inch down pipe an 3'exhaust stright back with no cats, it raised the boost up to 13lbs. I've yet to install a boost controler or boost cut. Once the engine was in, Car was taken straight to get pipping and front mount put on, so I really never got to feel the "stock" feel.

^^^ Seems like a good topic for sure.. I'm also contemplating the swap but wonder if any drivability issues arise...
IE: Hot starts, warmups, fuel smell, Exhaust fumes?

im new to the forum and lexus in general..
What is the benefit of having the 2JZgte over the regular 2JZ?? the regular 2JZ is still a good motor to boost right?
does the gte just have lower compression since its turboed out of the factory so its easier to mod or something?

^^ You have a lot of researching to do. Yes, you can go NA-T instead of doing a GTE swap but lets not jack the OP's thread.

I went from na straight to gte build with single turbo, fuel system, manual trans, etc so I can't compare to how the stock gte ran in this car. But I've experienced a bone stock automatic turbo supra and although it was fun it wasn't all that impressive for what I had hoped for, though not the same car obviously and not vvti, but similar weight and drivetrain to an aristo.

BPU'ing should wake it up a bit and is surely worth doing since you have the motor in the car now.

What do you have installed for an exhaust system? If you just made a custom downpipe connection from the twins to the stock mid pipe and have a stock rear y and mufflers then that would surely cause a bit of a bottleneck.

Once you have the exhaust right, getting the boost up into the mid teens will quickly start to feel a bit better pulling.

Did you do a leakdown test on the engine yet? Not just a compression check? If so what where your results?

I am also looking to do this swap soon and would like to get more info from members who have done the swap. I have owned a few BPU supra's, and I bought them bone stock. With a stock supra tt auto, it will run mid 13's and low to mid 5's 0-60. When you add a rmm downpipe, 3 inch catback, a bcc, air filter, and turn up the boost, it really turns the car into a beast . At 17-18 psi the car would run low 12's @117+ with healthy stock twins. I think the aristo should really wake up with BPU mods and increased boost.

A lot of people expect too much out of the stock gte setup. We are talking about 20 year old technology here in cars that weigh a good bit. Most luxury sports cars today come with about 250-300 horse power in N/A forum. Instant power. With the cheap and readily available mods to go BPU I would surely do that right away.

"GTE swap and sorted all the bugs "...What were the issues you sorted out after installing the GTE? Did you do a write-up?
Thanks,
Wade

remember the STOCK gte, running in TTC mode without a boost controller only puts down 270 to the wheel in a supra 6 speed.

With a boost controller and an FCD (or you can just pull the MAP Sensor) you should see a much better gain. Also if you are runnign in true twin mode, consider putting the sequential mode back the way it was from the factory - I hated driving my supra in "true twin" mode - felt laggy and slow, but sequentials made a ton more power from 2000 rpm+...

i thought it was slow, but it was a start to making some serious power.

I'm also used to daily driving a 600whp supra, lol.

I totally agree with this. If it is an automatic transmission with stock stall, leave it is sequential mode. Putting it into True Twin Conversion mode will make it very laggy under 3500 rpms.

That's precisely why i don't bother modding the GS, my other daily is 820whp supra - in fact it's why I bought the GS, because the supra has gotten to be a bit extreme lol.
