Default Want to Change Just Mufflers

I want to add a little noise to my IS350, but I'm not real keen on dumping a bunch of money for even an axle back for just a few HP. I was thinking of just going to a local shop and having some mufflers welded on, and maybe some new tips. I was considering maybe borla or something? I don't really know what they will sound like as I haven't seen any modded 2ISs in town. Any thoughts on muffler type? What size inlet would I need? 2.25 or 2.5"?

I don't want something really loud, I just want to be able to hear the exhaust instead of the motor for a change. I would think since I wont be touching any of the cats or doing midpipes or anything, nothing is going to make too much of a drone. Thanks for any input.

Cheapest choice # 1 = Drill a hole in ure air box (makes it a little louder)

Next choice is a midpipe which will run you around 200-300 bucks and will make it louder

Just sayin

A used tanabe is 400, legal, and adds 7 hp... versus a midpipe for 200-300 that adds 1 hp and fails a visual inspection.

Just sayin

No inspections in this state, so not a big deal. I've looked around for used tanabe before, but never see anything. Any help on that would be appreciated. But like I said, I'm not really looking to change anything besides the final mufflers. 7 HP is pretty negligible, and I don't race so it's really just for the noise.

^^^ why not change the exhaust parts though, they are very easy bolt on installs

If I found a good deal on a tanabe ($400ish), I would do that over just mufflers since I could do it myself without having to worry about welding new stuff on. But if I could by mufflers and have them put on for $300 total, vs 6-700 for a new bolt on system, I would go the cheap route. This isn't a problem I want to throw much money at.

Well, if you're not in a big hurry I'd just keep my eye on the for sale section here... that's where I got my tanabe for 400 and I've certainly seen more than mine selling around that price.... plus as you note it's less hassle to just bolt it on, and when you get rid of the car you can always swap the stock system back in 15 minutes and re-sell the tanabe.
