Default Apexi Exhaust Installation in GS430

Hi Gang,

I am seriously considering putting the Apexi W2S catback exhaust on my 2004 GS430. It will be its first mod. Need a V8 to sound like a V8.

A couple of questions: Is the installation a DIY bolt on at the three bolt flange or is there welding involved? Love DIY stuff, but welding exceeds my talents. LOL From the pictures/brochure it looks bolt on but . . .

Also, if I remove the resonators, I am assuming it will round out the sound for a more throaty growl, a much more throaty growl at WOT? Again, is that something I can DIY or is all of this muffler shop territory?

Lastly, as it is catback, I am assuming there are zero problems with Cali emissions. If I am misled in this belief, I would appreciate a quick schooling here!

Thanks much!

I'm assuming that since it's a catback, you're going to be removing the part of the exhaust where the resonators are anyway. No welding is required when installing a catback. Only nuts 'n bolts.

Sure thing. It does comply with California emissions since you're not removing any cats, o2 sensors etc.

Thanks again. What a great place, ask a question, no flames and a clear and direct answer. Hope to give back myself once I get a little more experience behind my belt in the GS world.

Haha...I'm glad someone finally knew who that was.

Ditto on the 993 pics!

I have a pepper myself. Very interested in getting a 993 or 997.

Too funny. Ok, let me see if I can dig up a couple of pics. It is a fun driver and I use it as such, not a wine and cheese car, so I don't really have any of "those" kinds of shots. Nothing fancy - except . . . a Super Cup exhaust = almost a straight pipe which makes it sound like a big block V-8 and screams on the track (seems to be a common denominator for me - I like aggressive [normal] sounding cars). Still has SUV ride height suspension and all. Best I can link to are my avatar on the Rennlist board (another SUPER automotive community), and a couple of run pics, one from up on the Mullholand Drive lookout. My 993 is the black narrow body. No pics of the Lexus as I just picked it up Thursday - and LOVE it!

1UZ-GS - Can't say enough good things about the 993 and the Rennlist community. Spend some major time on the 993 forum and you will learn a boat load and meet some great people who will help you get a solid car. I learned to DIY almost everything on that car myself and I have two left thumbs. It is a very easy to work on and intuitive automobile. 993 vs. 997 is literally an oranges and apples comparison. 993 is a go cart, 997 is a light weight touring car. I always say that every time I get in the 993 I feel like I did when I first drove those little Autopia cars at Disneyland as a really little kid. 100% raw fun. There are zero amenities to the 993, but . . . it is the last of the air cooled Porsches and I can't tell you how much fun it is to drive. And it is a car that needs to be driven. Even after driving it for six plus years, I still have so much to learn about driving a rear engine car like that, it is more than enough car and HP. Have driven the 997 on the track as well, but the feeling was actually much more like driving a much lighter version of the GS430. It is like a rocket, but you feel just a little too comfortable, too refined and removed from the driving experience. Just my $.02.

Yeah, I'm on Rennlist. Not really much of a poster...which is hard to believe since I am on here.

Yeah I've been looking for a 95-98 993 4S. Truly a big fan of the Arena Red on those, although I don't mind silver.

Oops...we better stop talking about Porsche's on the Lexus forum.

If you ever get in serious acquisition mode, feel free to PM me and we'll exchange numbers. Let's just say I have learned a lot in six years of driving and maintaining. A quote attributed to Greg Brown from Precision Motor Werks, Anaheim, CA sums it up well; "What part of Porsche Racing did you think is going to be cheap, is it the the Porsche part, or is it the Racing part?" True, true, true! Ugg . . .

Back to Lexus ... I'll post pics of the GS430 with the APEXi exhaust once I get is put on. I found a fairly good price scouring the net at "Redline Motive" $692. If there are any other reasonable parts shops you guys recommend feel free to let me know in this thread or via PM. Thx!

i find it quite interesting that the air cooled porsches are actually worth more than the modern models here in vancouver.
