Default VVTI swap/ Possible emissions passing?

Well I went through many threads before I decieded to ask this question.
If someone has already addressed this issue please copy and paste and I
will ask to have the thread deleted. Thanks in advance.

Heres the Skinny. I live in an a emissions based county.
I own a 2G GS300 and I have a VVTI swap ready to go and I was told
by a specialist that I could use the stock harness and ECU on the VVTI swap to actually pass emissions but the motor would not live up to its "full capabilities" as if i had the right harness and ECU.

So my question is that if i do my VVTI swap with the stock harness and ECU
will it be as if i just put a turbo on the stock motor?

When you say you have a VVT-i swap ready to go, does this mean you have a GTE VVT-i motor, because I am pretty sure the GE that's in the GS300 is a VVT-i motor already. I have yet to do this swap, but I don't see why you couldn't pass emissions provided that they don't do a visual inspection or they dock you points for not having the original motor. However it isn't as if the motor hasn't or isn't able to pass emission testing in a stock TT Supra. One thing I have heard of is that many people choose not to run the VVT-i enabled, however I am sure someone else can chime in with some REAL answers.

you will not pass visual emissions in california if you do this swap. however using stock ecu and wiring harness allows you to keep obd-II system, which allows technicians to plug scanners into your car as well as pass the sniffer test. you should run a standalone with your stock ecu to run the vvti gte (everything plugs right in).

Well thats the answer I might be looking for because Im being told that if i use the stock harness and ecu it will be like having a stock motor? Is that true?

i would really look for a new shop to do the swap if this is what they told you. I am just going to list some of the main problems with what you were told.

First the transmission for the turbo motor is a 4-speed and can not be driven off the factory GS300 computer as that transmission is a 5-speed. You could use your factory 5-speed but it will not handle the power.

The JDM turbo motor has no emissions devices on it. The stuff on the back side of your factory head would be the biggest problem. The head would need to be machined to accept the factory emissions equipment.

The turbos would have to be modified to run in parallel. This is not hard but makes the car lag.

Then you would need to run a stand alone computer piggy backed to the stock ECU and have a custom tune done.

There are MANY more problems with what you were told. I am not saying it can't be done, but I doubt you would want to spend the time or money to do it.
