SRT Intake---droning at low RPM's.
 

I recently bought the SRT/Intake for my 03 GS300. Installation went fine and I enjoy the added hp and improvement on the upper end. However, no one in previous threads really pointed out the noticeable drone on the lower rpms, mostly 1800-2800, when driving at low speeds around town.

I don't mind the sound when I'm getting on it, but it's unnecessarily loud when daily driving thru a neighborhood, pulling away from a stop at low speeds. It says " listen to me" when you're barely keeping up with normal traffic flow.

I'm thinking of putting Dynamat Extreme on the heat shield and wrapping the intake itself with it to reduce noise and heat. Has anyone done this and/or do you think it will help? I don't expect to eliminate noise but if I can reduce by about 20% or so, then I think it's worth it.

The noise is eminating from the actual pipe entrance via the air filter. You cant get rid of the noise. The sound is of the motor breathing. You will not find an aftermarket intake out there that is completely quiet. SRT is the biggest you can get at this point; you can opt to sell it and get a k&n or aem but they will have some audible tones as well.

Part of the reason that the SRT intake gives you more power is because it gets rid of the "resonators" (not really resonators but same principal, less power less noise) in the intake which gives you more hp

I'm not looking to get rid of the noise....only reduce it by about 20% or so. I've read that the Dynamat Extreme does a phenomenal job on sound absorption on metal for sound systems. Surely if I cover both sides of the large heat shield, that should help.

Would I create a heat retention problem if I wrapped part of the intake tube by not letting the heat disspipate through the wall? Any others have thoughts?
