Fuse'd it the other day.

Whoa .. Car is even more touchy than before. Almost too good throttle response. Still can smoke the tires ... it may smoke a little easier .. but maybe thats just biased feeling.

Did any of you notice a fuse missing? It was my first time resetting the ecu-b and noticed an empty space.
It was a 20/30 or 40 .. any ideas? (I don't have a Nav, but from the sounds of everyones comments I've read .. sounds like Nav's on the same fuse.

I'll go out and look at it tonite and report back as to which fuse it is exactly.

 

I disconected my batery terminal before taking it to the track last month I have ran consitant 14.0's at best top of 101mph, after I reset the ecu my track times BLEW! I ran a 15.06! My tires were a little bit balder but I didn't spin that much off the line and I still cut a descent 60 foot. The next day I was driving my car and pulling out of my neighborhood I got on it and it bogged! It almost seems like VVTI isn't working right, I feel like a honda boy now raving about my vtec not working. I don't know whats going on but the car is at the dealership right now. Hopefully they can figure it out. Oh yeah I forgot to mention I have a 2001 GS430

Resetting the ECu doesn't not give you more hp or torque, it simply redistributes it to lower on the power band.

Think of it as shifting the torque closer to the beginning of the curve.

You'd be more apt to notice it in daily driving, than at a WOT shot. At WOT, the ECU has for all intents and purposes, tunnel vision on air & fuel mixtures.

But, yeah, if it bogged, something is up. Hope the dealer remedies wht it might be; although, when you reset your ECU, it wipes out all error code history. Good luck.

 

Yeah I know it erases all error codes but none of them show up? We'll see I get the car back Thursday but now I'm stuck drivng an ES.

 

I was looking through one of those flight sales magazines on the airplane last week and came across this little "battery disconnect with fuse" dongle that is marketed to travelers who leave their car sitting for a couple of weeks at a time. Theory is, disconnect the battery from your car and it doesn't drain while you are gone. Also, the handle was removable making your car harder to steal.

HOWEVER,

I think there is a pretty good use for these things to reset our ECUs. They look pretty simple and are cheap.

I found two types. The 'normal' type like I saw in the magazine, looks like a water faucet ****.

The second type I found while searching for the other... Apparently a safety item on many drag cars are battery disconnect devices. There are a bunch of them on the net, here is a link for some of them at Summit Racing. These don't look quite as simple as the first variety, mostly because I can't visually see (at least the ones I looked at) how they disconnect the source.

Anybody got experience with either of these? Think they'll work? I also saw one with a remote switch but it was a hardwire.

 

I purchased a 98GS4 with 34K miles about three weeks ago. I pulled the ECU fuse a few nights ago and then put it back in after about an hour. The next morning, I noticed more aggressive shifting under aceleration and smoother shifting across the range. My wife also commented that she noticed a difference when she drove the car (even though I didn't mention anything about pulling the ECU fuse to her).

 

sorry to bump this thread but , well there be any codes i would need after i reset the ECU and when i pull the fuse, how long do i wait, and which fuse? did you guys lose any preset memory functions or radio codes? i have a 02 gs300

 

No codes and I normally have the fuse out for an hour while cleaning the car. You will lose your radio stations that were previously set.

 

What about seat memory?

imma try this but wont the computer go back to how it was before after learning mode.

 

Battery disconnection could lead to reset of vsc calibration data.

 

I just had a new catback magnaflow exhaust put on my 02 gs300 67k, and a new cold air intake installed. I pulled my ecu fuse for about an hour and a half, and cleaned my maf sensor with a sensor cleaner, worked awesome, my car was running sluggishly prior to the work being done, but now has great acceleration and great pedal response.

 

Oh and still had to reset all of my settings in the car. Seat,radio,steering wheel, &everything else but welllll worth the minor aggravation.
