DIY GS430 Oil Change question......
Does the entire bottom plastic shield have to be removed to access the oil filter or is there a shortcut?
I've always been lazy and took my GS to the dealer for oil changes. Since Carson is selling the good filters again(90915-20004), I'm going to do it myself this time. Thanks. |
ok, just checked Bananas site:egads: . http://lexusmodz.netfirms.com/ looks like you just loosen enough of the cover(plastic shield, whatever)bolts to pull open for access.
Bananas didn't mention it, but do you guys fill the filter with oil before installing it too? I've always been taught to do that. |
yeah there is a "flap" under the filter I think you just need to remove 3-4 screws and you can fold it down to get to the filter.
I always pre-fill the filter, I figure it only takes a minute and can't hurt. A lot of people say it is a waste of time but I don't mind doing it. |

I've never filled my filter either, but a coat on the gasket ensures a good seal.

Gordon has some 90915-20004 filters on the way to me.
I noticed my dealer used 5w30 sometimes and 10w30 sometimes. my manual says 5w30...... what weight do you guys use? |

As you've already seen you can remove only a handful to fold down the shroud. 5W30 and pre-fill of filter here.
|
Yea, remove just enough screws to gain access. The filter you would be buying from Carsons come pre-lubed:thumbup: . Ha...Ha... I said "Lubed":p
I have never pre-filled my filters. Seems like a waste of time and a possible mess. |
the reason for pre-filling filter is to get oil pressure quicker on first start after change.
|
On the 1UZ motors it's not a mess at all. The filter doesn't tilt enough to spill out it's contents. On my *other* car though it is a different matter.
