then what's with all the souped-up IS300's and GS's running around, and all the new IS owners drooling over 20 in wheels, dropped height and ground effect kits? And all the 3 series owners who try to make their ride look like an M3. It's all relative. I did take the car to a muffler shop, and the guy cut off the old pipe, using a torch, with the muffler still on the car (I almost wetted my pants), and welded the new tip directly to the muffler. All done in 10 minutes (and $15).

hehe, they are now welded to the muffler (the muffler man cut off the tail pipe and welded the tip directly). The tip is about 2 inches longer the stock one, so it protrudes a little, which is exactly what I was looking for. Will post pix later.

You can get them for $108/pr (free shipping) at Carboutiquefx.com. I haven't dynoed the car, but these new tips feel like approx. 1 more hp because of the larger diameter, just as the rear spoiler increases downforce and make the vehicle more stable on the freeway. It's not a simple DIY operation due to the necessity of pipe cutting. Man, let me tell you, watching the muffler man cut the pipe with a blow torch, as the tip of the flame contacts the apron is one of the scariest moment one can experience. Apparently, either the tip of the flame is not THAT hot or the bodywork can stand some heat without melting. Is it a worthwhile addition? Purely a personal taste--I wouldn't spent $500-600 on the rear spoiler which IMO disrupts the look of the trunk, or $2000 on a set of 20-in wheels that makes every speed bump and pot hole look like a death threat, but there are people who dig them. This is one of the cheapest mod you can do to give the car a little more distinction.
