Question about Turbo GS400's

Alright, before I get flamed, YES I've searched.... ;)

Based on the registry Dave put together, it looks like there are only 4 other Turbo GS400's out there, but Morris is not on there either.

Based on stories floating around for a while now, I seem to remember that there are atleast 2-3 others that led the way a while back. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are those leaders part of the registry or were they other people?

My question is this:

Does anyone know what the definitive answer is to how MANY "turbo", be it TT or single, GS400's are out there?

Further twist:

How many of those are still running?

Question I ask this is because I had the question asked of me at Nopi Nats and I blurted out 7. I then started feeling kinda crudy because I felt like I had just made it up. Am I right? Wrong? or Close enough?

Anybody know for sure?

im 99.99% sure that there are no SINGLE turbo GS400's b/c for some reason, a single turbo wont do the trick on a GS400 and it needs a twin turbo set up to work properly. thats the only thing i can comment on

Maybe a search would be in order.
Morris has a single turbo GS4.

The question about how many turbo GS4's there are.
I can think of 4 TT's that there have been posts about (one of them I think sold the TT kit) and one single turbo GS4.

As stated already, that's not quite right...... :D

This is what's reciding under MY hood right now and it's running just fine right now.... ;) :

The only reason for the question was because I was asked that question at Nopi Nats and I had to kinda wing it. I wanted to know for sure. I know there may be a couple that are not "forum world known" , but I'd like to know atleast the ones we do know for sure and then I'll just add 2 to that number..... :D

Thats SEXY!!!!

Dont forget about TTurboPimp

sockfocks Sep 25, 2005 06:38 PM

plenty of v-8's run on single turbos...i dont see why a GS400 wouldn't?

Cannonbear Sep 25, 2005 10:54 PM

is it easier to run a single turbo then twins?

I beleive it would be cheaper to do single

sockfocks Sep 26, 2005 09:17 AM

not as expensive since you dont have to buy another turbo and the extra plumbing. Less complex and easier to install a single.

morris Sep 26, 2005 09:20 AM

Sure you also have to consider how much room is available under the hood.
How much heat can you deal with or are willing to pay to deal with
How much engine work are you ready able to do
What are your hp goals
What are your boost goals, if you only want to run 15psi why do it with twins when singles will do just as nicely but cheaper.

I'm sure there is more for the equation

Oh also twins have a higher "pimp" factor, meaing they are considered to be cooler, so if you are into the show scene you need to consider that.

jmecbr900 Sep 26, 2005 06:03 PM

It's not necessarily about the expense as much as logistics.

Our cars don't have much room to work with. That is far more difficult to overcome than is some other things.

going the single route, where is the turbo mounted and how does the plumbing work since there's two manifolds but one turbo?

Mine is directly in front of the crank, however I have seen some 400's wtih the turbo located near where the air box used to be.
