New Turbo
So I was at the shop today and thought I'd take a picture of the new turbo goin in. Only had my camera phone with me, so sorry about the quality, but hey... look at that monster!
Yeah, I was just kiddin anyway... That turbo is a bit large for our engines... But I guess it does just fine on Caterpillar's V16s that are over 6 feet tall! I was troubleshooting one of the wiring harnesses for the engine and thought I'd snap a pic of the turbo with my hand in there... heh That engine is sitting flat on the ground and I'm standing and reaching slightly up to touch the intake pipe.
On their HUGE V16 that I saw, the damn turbos were big enough to stick your head in! This picture was from the ground looking up at that huge beast and the red circles are shop fans (the 3 - 4 foot diameter kind) about 15 feet behind the motor. I believe the displacement on this thing is something like 69 liters, uses 106 gallons of oil, 92 gallons of gas per hour (at full capacity), and I think puts out something like 1800 BHP, but an astounding 8000+ LB-FT of torque. First time I'd seen the their ginormous engines in person... F'IN HUGE!

Yeah, nothin too special, but seeing it in person was just like
. I've seen these engines on the back of flat beds being hauled out of town, but never been to the factory and seen one of these monsters in person... Thought I'd share! heh

Yeah, but where's the turbo?
I'm just kiddin, those engines are insane! I can't imagine being able to run through an engine myself. That'd be one hell of a way to learn about every nook and crany of an engine! "And if you step over here, the hole we'll be passing through is the intake valve..."
Nice find!
