Default engine issue? water mayb?

ok like i told lexforlife 2day on the phone just slap me right now, i hosed down my engine monday and at 1st the car was off than i turned it while hoseing it. i didn't use any real methods, i just aimed and sprayed. i think thats where i messed up....well anyway the issue is now that the car when i turn it on starts 2 stalll on me. and it has no normal power... i took it 4 a drive 2day and its lagging, and the engine light comes on, than starts 2 blink...and the "vsc" and "vsc off" lights come on aswell.....did i really mess something up by doing this? is it just wet and needs 2 dry? we pm'd vvt-i and r waiting 4 his response but wanted 2 know what else someone thinks it could b. more than likely the car is going 2 the mechanic 2morrow but i was just hopeing there was something i could do....i did a search but could find anything

Unhappy say it aint sooo....

blue, i absolutely LOVE your car and i HOPE to god nothing is wrong w/it... when you hosed your car down, did you just use water or did you use an engine cleaner?? if you did the latter, did you make sure to cover all electrical wires and intakes and stuff like that?? if you used "just" water, how high was the pressure?? maybe you dislodged a connection if the pressure was too high... in any event, PLEASE come back w/good news... and hopefully you wont need to go to the mechanic

Adrian, same thing happened to me. I'll try to dig up the thread. Anyway, my father hosed down my engine and well, water got into the spark plugs. Took it to the Toyota dealership and they charged me $300 to drain/dry out the water and replace the plugs.

I had the EXACT same symptoms as you as well.

I had a detailer company cleaning the engine for me when the same thing happened. It seems that our cars are a little bit sensitive when it comes to washing the engine bay. I brought the car to the Lexus dealer and they where aware of the problem. I took the car back to the detailer and they had some argument with the Lexus dealer since they clean thousands of engines every year and never had this problem. Lexus didn’t backed an inch and the car was sent to a mechanic who cleaned the plugs and after that the car was happier than ever.

when cleaning the engine bay you need to be a little more carefull. you need to cover up the alternator #1 and make sure that water does not get in between any of the electrical contack and there areas and these cars have lots of them under the hood

..what i did was use simple green and a rag as well as a warm damp cloth and an air compressor <--over kill

i sprayed over the strut bar areas with simple green (undiluted)then i used a small amount of warm water and would pour it over the areas making sure not to get any on the electrical parts ..if you do accidently get some on the electrical parts use the air compressor to clean out the water ..but make sure to take apart the area that has water to get all the water out ,you can also use electrical contack cleaner (radio shack sells this item ill get the exact part # for you later tonight)to clean the areas and lessen the risk of getting oxidation between the electrical components and causing problems down the road .

the main areas i could not spary directly on i sparyed simple green on a rag and wiped the area as much as i could clean ,then with a clean warm damp cloth i wiped over the areas and then used the air compressor to dry off the area a little better ....the final look was great ! the motor looked good as new and no electrical issues.

time consumming? yes. but well worth it .

Yo A....that sux bro. Hope they figure it out soon.

When I clean the engine...i keep the engine running.....I use a pressure washer and degreaser (sometimes Simple Green). Just make sure you cover up the intake and be careful when theres electrical wires.

Adrian, now when you hose the engine down, it has the same effect and dumping your car into the river (ok not so bad, but you get the picture).

When you didn't cover the alternator, the fusebox, the ECU or the main sparkplug cover, you are pretty much leaving open electronics (live wire) to water and something bad is bound to happen (short fuse, blown alternator, etc).

Well your car started up. So "at least" your ECU and fuses should be ok. From what it sounds like, your sparkplugs are just not giving out enough spark from being dunked in the water. Take it to the dealer, get your car hair-dryered (j/k heheh) and you will be alright, albeit $300 poorer....

*slaps you upside yo head* Here's my virtual slap for being retarded! Heheheh!

idk if this is a dumb question, but how did you get the car to the dealer?? if you drove it there, then doesnt that mean the car is ok... or (the scarier option), was the car towed?? just wondering.

btw, let us know how it goes/went at the dealer...

ok the verdict is in , i damaged a coil pack, one spark plug, and an ecterical wire, all 3 items r being replaced and i should have the car back 2day around 5pm....damage looks 2 b around $300.00 or so with labor, it only about 6 miles away so i took the chance and drove it this morning, so far everything else looks ok, i hope i don't another call with more problems found ....a lesson well learned here....
