I've never seen a part that looks like this box with vacuum hoses attached to it. The box is primarily attached as a "T" inline with the air intake hose . What is it called and what is it's function? Thanks.

Well....think about it...if it has vacuum hoses attached to it....maybe its a vacuum chamber.

Remember that your engine doesn't come a HOOVER in it. The design of the chamber onto the intake creates the vacuum you need.

LMAO on HOOVER, good one Mamuel. Yes, it's a vacuum chamber/noise reducer.

Thanks folks. I thought it's an interesting design. The vacuum hoses are bridging the intake manifold and main intake hose. It's like bypassing the throttle. When the throttle is closed, part of the vacuum is being sucked through the resonator.

How come an aftermarket intake can work without the vacuum chamber?

You can thank Mr. Bernoulli for that!

Differences in cross sectional areas affect velocities which in turn affect differential pressures.

You dont have this memorized bit....shame on you!
