92 sc400 egr
My cousin has a 92 sc400, CEL light is on, he took it to a mechanic who said it was an egr valve but they are discontinued. He said you can try eBay but the best bet would be finding a junkyard with the egr valve.
My question is where the egr valve is located and what years and models would have the same egr valve.

The same EGR valves should be on all the SC400's until the 1998 model year. It should still be possible to carefully clean your original EGR valve unless there is some electronic solenoid inside it. The SC300 EGR valves have nothing but the diaphragm but the SC400 versions may be more complicated. Not sure. Toyota EGR valves generally last a very long time but they do become clogged over time. They only need a replacement if they cannot be cleaned or if the internal diaphragm has been confirmed to have failed.
If you have a Code 71 (EGR insufficient flow or EGR malfunction) then you would also want to check and clean any of the EGR passages of carbon buildup. You'd also want to be sure it isn't the EGR VSV or EGR Vacuum diaphragm that are at fault.
Sometimes mechanics don't always want to fully diagnose these older EGR systems since few modern cars apart from diesels still use them. It is possible that your EGR valve only needs a good cleaning (again, being very careful to avoid damaging any electronic solenoid inside an EGR valve so equipped).
I am not familiar with the location of this part on the 1UZ-FE engine, sorry. Your mechanic is right that if the part has been discontinued by Toyota you'll have to find one in classifieds, on ebay or though a wrecking yard or pick your part yard.
