Whats the best intake for the SC
I have a 93 SC400 completely stock and was wondering what intake system I should get if at all. Some people say that an intake will make my car slightly faster. But I have read other threads where some people seem to say that they have not seen much difference with an intake. If I do get one, does having a heat shield make a big difference? I don't know much about cars and any suggestions would be appreciated.

I recall people saying the best intake is the stock intake with the snorkel removed and some more modding. Do a search on "BFI"

The Stock intake is built the best and will out work all of the aftermarket setups.....if you want it to look 'pretty' get the Injen unit.
"BFI" is the best way to go if you are not into custom fabrication work. |
If you want REAL horsepower, you should go with the nitrous, torque converter and ECU upgrade..Although, I have been hearing lots of rumors about a possible SUPERCHARGER..I don't think it's coming anytime this year....
If you just want to look all fancy, then go with the Injen.. Comes in different colors too... |
Stock is proven by far to be the best. Planetsoarer even has the dyno's to prove it.

Yup if you want one, I'd say to go with a BFI. It's simple and effective. I've just got a basic one for now on my Soarer with no ducting, i.e. I've just got the hole in the factory airbox and a new lid, nothing else done to the car and my car made 149.3kw on the rollers (200hp at the wheels). Not a bad performance mod at all :)

I think the tests that were done on stock replacement drop in flat type panel filters... I don't think they(planet soarer) did tests on the cone type filters.... anyone confirm?
I know the BFI is the way to go... but what about BFI air channel trick with conical KnN? |
Thanks all for the advice.
I think I'm going to give the BFI project a try. |
Here's an explanation on why stock is better:
http://planetsoarer.com/resonator/resonator.html I know there is a graph somewhere comparing aftermarket intakes with stock but I just can't find it. |

The Injen Intake is very pretty but I did not notice an increase in power.
