Default Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) - locating a better priced equivalent

I am looking for a VSS for a 1997 SC300 with auto trans, and have found the part number should be 83181-24050 per several OEM Lexus part stores. This is priced ridiculously up to $200; some for $140 ish.

I have several questions.
  1. Has anyone used the 83181-24040 in an SC300 successfully? It is only $47. There is conflicting information on what other cars use this model sensor. Most sites claim this is for Previas, Tacomas and Supras, but I found one site that listed 83181-24040 is listed as compatible SC300. Toyota/Lexus part compatibility information seems to be scarce and of questionable quality.
  2. I removed my current VSS and took the 3 screws out to see of anything could be repaired. It's a simple rotating disk driven by the gear that interfaces with the driveshaft. This disk is pressed against a sealed sensor which is removable (and should be replaceable, but it appears not to be). Does anyone know whether the sealed electronic part can be replaced alone? I cannot seem to find one online. There is a part number molded on the sensor housing but google search found nothing.

Thank you.
