SC400: '92 Nakamichi vs. '93 Pioneer Audio
Have a '93 SC400 (114K miles) with the Lexus Premium Sound System and the CD changer is toast, but the head unit and amp are fine. Just got an all original '92 with the Nakamichi System, head unit doesn't seem to be working, a possible question about the amp, but the CD changer supposedly works...
QUESTION: Can the '92's changer interface with the '93's head and amp? Could I just move all the '93's electronics to the '92 to try and retain it's stock condition (only has 73+K miles) and subwoofer? It is cherry enough that I'm considering entering it in some local car shows.
Thanks in advance for your kind consideration!

I'm not sure about the trunk CD changer (which is notorious for failure btw) but apart from the regular sizes door and package tray speakers the electronics are not compatible between Pioneer and Nakamichi cars. Notably the head units are totally different despite having near identical front faces. The Pioneer system use a different amplifier under the CD changer and the Pioneer subwoofer in the center of the rear package tray is a 1 Ohm with its own special sub-amplifier... whereas the Nakamichi subwoofer is a more powerful unit that does not require its own sub-amp.

Now according to this thread it seems most of the time 92-98 SC's used the same CD changer (specifics therein) so according to that you should be able to swap changers:

Aside, in case you weren't aware, alternatively here is a thread on adding an aux-in jack to your Pioneer equipped SC:

Nakamichi stereos being capable of an aux-in modification I am still not sure about. It might be covered in this thread but generally the Pioneer cars are the easiest:

Thanks to all for the most prompt responses. Appears the 1st attempt w/b to determine if the changer from the '92 does actually work... It seem this w/b s simple switch into the '93 with the entire mounting bracket. Have a N.I.B. DOUBLE DIN (and, interestingly, also a single DIN) JVC modern (as in bluetooth, mini- input, USB, etc.) head unit that s/b compatible with factory amps (i.e. has 4 RCA outputs, per the Crutchfield site's installation recommendations)) if the '92's amp is actually still working. Found a very good "How to" video for removing the head unit (and the climate control) from the early SC-series cars. Maybe I'll end up swapping the entire '93 system back into the '92 for that "Factory Fresh" O.E.M. look.
When I know more I'll try and post an update.
THANKS, AGAIN!
