getting vss with cd009 on sc300
just did the six speed swap, I'm running aem v2, what's the best way to get vehicle speed with the 350z trans? use the existing speed sensor? did searches to no avail
My guess would be speedo gauge with gps. I haven't seen a writeup to hook up the sig to the ABS ecu. The AEM X-series is pretty nice.
nobody have input on this? wire abs sensor to tranny plug?
GPS device works. I've also heard of folks with standalone's using the ABS sensors.
yea I'm on standalone, I guess I need to look up tranny plug speedo wires lol
350z has no speed sensor. nissan uses the diff for the speed sensor. so you are out of luck unless you can tap into the ABS signal. i am using a GPS device and it works quite well, turns off when going through tunnels are wider overpasses though (speed drops to 0). i would prefer if someone got the ABS method to work well, but i am not sure if it is possible to tap the ABS sensor and still keep ABS ecu functional/happy.

We are doing a CD009 swap into a 1993 SC400 now.
Probably will use Dakota Digital proximity pickup (# 620005) & converter (SGI-5E) Mount the pickup near driveshaft, then hide the converter module someplace under the dash. The output of the Dakota converter will then get spliced into the existing harness to drive the existing dash speedo. Calibrate it once on the initial install to match your system speedometer and forget about it forever. The GPS units commonly suggested will work OK, but will take several seconds to "find" the satellites each time you start the car. GPS can also cut out when in tunnels, under heavy trees, in covered parking decks, etc. Those kind of issues may, or may not, be deal breakers for you. They were for me, if I can avoid it. |
looks awesome! you know what tranny plug wires are output and grounds? I know I need 3 wires, should be easy enough, what about using the and sensor into the converter?
yep this was with cd009, the auto was taking 100+ hp, yea this little 200$ is doing work

One other comment regarding the VSS. I have my ABS sensor feeding my AEM Infinity. And I run a BTI Canbus gauge that displays tons of various things. We calibrated the VSS sensor so that it displays my speed right on the BTI gauge.
What else is kind of cool is that since AEM now knows my speed, and it knows my engine RPM, we plugged in the correct gear ratios for my trans/diff setup, and based off those inputs it can determine and gear I'm currently in as well. So I have been leaving my BTI gauge on the screen that displays Speed/RPM/Gear lately. So with that all working correctly I'm now able to setup boost by gear. |
do.you know what wires are what to tap into speedo?
