Default Is this the right transmission output shaft seal?

I've got a 98 SC300 with the later style transmission and I'm going to replace the output seal, the one that goes around the splined shaft that the driveshaft slips onto. Anyways, the one that came out looks like a typical oil seal, like a larger version of a camshaft seal. However, most of them that popup in internet searches and at parts stores are ones with a metal body with a seal inside of it. Is that a new style that is supposed to be stronger, last longer, or easier to install; or is it just a completely wrong part and the parts stores have some bad info?
