Default SC400 startup sound

haven't posted in a while but anyways,

when I start my 1995 sc400 (non VVT-i), it sounds...rattly? almost like a 70's American car. I haven't driven any other SC400's so I don't really know, but I feel like it's louder on startup than it should be, but maybe that's just a V8 thing lol
it hasn't been an issue as of now, but it scares people when they hop on for the first time, and I was wondering if it was a sign of potential problems.
one of my friends said it might be a bad starter, in which case is that something I can easily fix/replace myself? I enjoy messing with the car by myself but don't have much experience under my belt.
I know this is a really vague question, but if you have any thoughts on it any tips will be appreciated!

edit: so the strange sound isn't the starter itself, but the initial "Vroom!" that sounds sketch
