SC400 Auto Trans Question
Recently purchased a 1996 SC400 for stupid cheap with a bad trans. Has the typical problem of only moving the car when cold or when first started up.
Either way, I'm on the fence on which way to go with the car. Mind you, I come from the Supra/V160 side of things and don't know much about the "interchangability" of 1UZ/A340E transmissions.
I have searched and I can't seem to find a definitive answer which is where my question lies.
Which years and what vehicles can I grab an A340E out of and drop it into this car to get it mobile again?
From what I have found, I think 92-97 SC400 and 95-97 LS400 but can someone please confirm this?
Thank You in advance

more and more supra owners buying an SC ... good for daily driver so you don't tear that MKIV quick , hahaha. Dang ... drop that slow 1uzfe and boost a 2JZ on the SC . Those 2jzGE engines aren't expensive . Maintenance wise , easier and cheaper too.
yes those ls400 trans are similar to that of the SC400s
if you have the pre-vvti supra A340e , I don't see any reason why it wont work , they are both electronically controlled . Just verify the pinnings on the connectors .

Gerrb,
Thanks for the insight. Honestly, I have 2 SC's. One a dedicated track car, the other because it was cheap. Like your list of cars, my Supra has a 10.5:1 3.4L run by MoTeC.
I have a built 2JZ that I can throw into this, with either an R154 or V160... I just don't know it that's the way I really want to go with this car.
Sure, I can make the thing a super sleeper as it is gold on the exterior, but I'm honestly just tempted to drive it and correct the issues with suspension and so on.
On top of it all, used trannies are pretty cheap to free so this is my motivation on going this route.
