SC400 DIY Harmonic balancer spanner wrench
Not sure where to post this. So i figured this would be the best spot.
Just completed my timing/water pump/crank/cam seal replacements.
And like others the harmonic balancer removal is a bear.
I made my own spanner wrench.
Which made the job super easy.
I'm including the file for anyone else wanting to make there own.
Material:
1/4"x 4"x12" Steel Stock
Tools Needed:
Drill Press
8mm Drill
1 1/4" Hole Saw
Angle Grinder with metal cut off disc.
Print the PDF *make sure to print it at full size.
Mount it to the steel plate using spray adhesive
Then drill the required holes and cut to shape.
For simplicity i just left mine square.
Now u can place it where ever u need,
Support it with a jack.
And break the bolt free and or install the bolt 181 ftlb.

I think the threads and spacing on the main pulley are the same. RX 300 and SC400 are for sure the same [first hand info]. I eye balled it on GS400 and it appeared they are the same.
I made mine out of extruded aluminum [Step of a ladder].
In RX forum, a member claimed the he used a 2x4 lumber. It never occurred to me to try 2x4 wood as the three holes would have made the tool weak.

What i did was, thread in some bolts then used my caliper to measure the distance between them on center. "8mm with1.25 thread
93' SC400 was 65.5mm
I tried the 2x4 split 4 of them.
I tried a 2x6 split that as well.
I tried a 3/4in piece of plywood for the face plate then bolted a bar to it, this just twisted my bolts and i darn near snapped one off inside the balancer.
I wasted about 8hrs trying different methods, this took me 1 hr to make and works everytime.
