new car coolant is black?

bought a sc3. ran for a bit now has black coolant and water and oil in the valley what could this be

Joey-E 07-10-16 06:32 PM

Wow, not good at all, whatever you do dont run it at all. Did you try pressure washing it? Because usually that leads to water in the valley. If not something worse.

Possibly a blown head gasket.

is the water / coolant / "black" mixture kind of milky? if it is, it's likely a blown headgasket....

Deathbarel 07-10-16 06:35 PM

No, I made that mistake last time. I don't get how ( what I assume is gas) is getting into coolant but the coolant is not getting into cylinders and it is getting into the valley.

no. its clearish black

DHenn 07-10-16 07:01 PM

i don't know where the oil might come from (perhaps valve covers), however i know that the round part of the thermostat housing (where it goes into the bridge) is prone to leaking there... the seal might have broken down....

If it were my car, i would take the intake off and inspect the valley area...

Yeah maybe rust. Never seen that before.

if someone left ONLY water in the cooling system, it will rust very fast. almost overnight, you have to flush it all out and put red toyota coolant in. but clean it out really good first.

:eek2::eek2::eek2:

I've seen engines that have a lot of bars leak in the coolant, make it.look that way. It's not oil or it would have a milky appearance to it. Left over flush in the system could possily do that also.
