Video explanations of how Torsen and Clutch Pack LSDs work
I thought this would be enlightening for folks here. I came across these very well made videos that each very clearly explain and visually demonstrate how Torsen and clutch-pack LSDs work for those wanting to understand what goes on inside the casings.
The Torsen demonstration is for the T-1 design which we are most familiar with on the MKIV/SC/GS. For clutch pack LSDs... 1-Way, 2-Way and 1.5-Way types are demonstrated.
Torsen T-2 and T-3's are a bit different from what is shown here. There are other designs not mentioned in the videos (such as Ford's Traction-Lok, the classic Detroit Locker, WaveTrac, Quaife, etc.) but as applies to our vehicles, these are the two types we can use.
(However it should be noted that the JZZ30 Soarer did have a Torsen T-2 option for at least part of its production run which technically makes it three types that apply to SC's)
Enjoy!

Another video I found demonstrating the mechanical operation of the Torsen Type-1 limited slip differential. This application depicted is the 1980's era rear-drive Peugeot 405 sedan (actually this version might have an AWD layout unlike older 405's but you can still see that a Torsen T1 is used in the rear differential). Still exactly the same type of Torsen LSD found in in 200mm MKIV TT Auto pumpkins and also 220mm 6-speed pumpkins (of course the size of the 200mm and 220mm Torsens are different. I just mean that in both cases it is the same differential type and design).
The ultra-rare (to us in the USA for SC's) JDM only Torsen Type-2 LSDs are a different design and are not depicted in this video.
The narration is in French but the visuals are easy to understand.
