Default Cam Gear Brands

Is there actaully any notable difference in quality between these expensive HKS cam gears

and them any off-brand Chinese ones? They look so structurally similar that it looks like the manufacturing process is either identical or done in the same few factories. Even the fonts are the same and printed exactly in the same place. Does HKS/Tomei actually just rebrand an OEM one from China somewhere?

Normally I don't go for off-brand stuff, but when it comes to simple components that are metallic, and when the on-brand looks to be nearly identical in material and machining, these are enticing.

the off brand looks to have even more material and structurally sound than the HKS one, do some research on what material is actually used, there's tons of different qualities of steel and aluminum.

I have heard to stay away from the 3 bolt ones, doesn't always hold well. Not sure about the knockoff's but I think there is alot more to it if the edges are not cut well then it can tear up the belt , but who knows they may originate from the same factory in China anyways.

stay away from 3 bolts as Ali said.... the more bolts to hold the gear in place better.

This is a part you want to make sure it is of good quality being a moving part. IF your engine is interference due to high lift cams and any of those cam gears fail .... it will do some damage.

Ebay cam gears here. They work fine. Cost around $50 too. Fair quality and the teeth don't appear to be different than stock. 5 bolts hold better than 3 IMO.
